View Full Version : What AA's should a new Coercer take first?

Howdy all, I just started playing around with my coercer alt and I am really enjoying him so far (aside from the occasional resist chain). I was just wondering what AA's you folks would recommend I take first. I'm up around 8 points now and i put 5 into the enhance Charm AA and 3 into Daunting Gaze (aiming for the reduced cast timer on my root spell), but I'm not sure what to do after that. Is there anything that will cut down on the number of resists I get? I plan on mostly soloing with this guy, with some light grouping with friends alts maybe. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Debuffing whatever you are fighting will be the number one thing to help with the amount of resists you get. If you are looking into mainly solo and light groups, I would go all the way down the resistance tree. This will net you the Charm AA that you already have, improves the 2 main debuffs we have, and gives you Tash as the final ability. Tash combined with the Charm AA and the Psyche line will help a huge amount when charming mobs (mez -> psyche -> tash -> charm) as well as give you a decent boost in damage for 10 seconds. Only need 16 pts as well instead of 21 like the other final abilities. If you want to favor DPS, look into AGI/INT for the enchanter tree, check out WIS for some extra resists and +Subj for crowd control situations, although it never seems like i have enough to get rid of mez resists completely. Not much time to get into more detail right now, but I'm sure others will give their advice as well

Are you on a PVP or PVE server? That makes a huge difference on which line(s) you should choose first.

Finish enchanter tree first (well after you get your total domination 5)

Choice is really what you want to do

Offensive coercerers goes INT/AGI (max crits on int + perpentuality) = best DPS you can squeeze

Fully defensive coercers goes STA/WIS (max on crit heals, max on de-hate)

Hibrid (like myself) = maxed INT (crits)/maxed healing crits (STA)/upward +500 to resist all

Coercer tree wise again choice are pretty obvious after +5 to charm go for reactives and if SOE ever fix our skills - for coersive healing. Other then that? the choice is yours - I am going to invest 3 point into dispell magic (to remove charm - IF SOE ever fix this) then prolly enhance Ego/Sonic/Stuns

It totally depends on what type of Coercer you want to be... Ask yourself, Do I want to be most useful on raids, do I want to solo mobs that no other class can or do I want to make the top of the parse on every raid? You basically have a few lines to choose from that will make one of those a YES.RAID COERCER: You want to go down STA / WIS lines. STA will help your healers and aggro, while WIS will help your personal resists and mezzing when needed. All the healers will love you. ~_^ DPS COERCER: You want AGI / INT lines. Agi for fast casting and less interupts, and the int for those super crit numbers when below 30% power. Prepare to show off on those parses!SOLO COERCER: You want to go down the AGI / WIS lines. The AGI line will help you with fast casting and tricky situations, while the WIS line (maxed Subj enhancement) will keep your charms true and you'll rarely miss a mess or stun. Be prepared to be a bank for all your friends, you'll be soloing mobs some groups have trouble with!As for the actual Coercer tree, I'ed go with what was said before and finish the Enchanter tree first. Once that is completed then look at what spells you use most and I think you'll be able to pick out the ones in the Coercer tree that best suit what type of Coercer you are. Given these are only the way I look at Coercers. There are probably a few different floavors that I have yet to explore. These I have tested and know what works, just don't waste points on the STR line... I still haven't seen a reason why ANYONE would pick that... seriously... melee & reposite abilities... //TF? Just so you know, I went STA / WIS lines. I didn't bother with either of the end abilities and just maxed out the 3rd and 4th in both lines. I will still make the parse on raids from time to time, all the healers love me for the 13.9% crits and -7.2% group hate I provide, and I solo some rediculous stuff in CMM and the like do to the +40something Subj I get from the AA, plus you can't complain about +800 to all resists.

Message Edited by Cattastrophy on 12-20-2006 01:24 AM

Do you plan on charming? If so put your first points in the charm AA to 5pts to help with the gosh awful resists. You will not regret it at all IF you are a charming Coercer.

There's nothing frivolous at all about putting your very first 5 AA points into the charm.
