Problems with spell resists

I did a search and checked the FAQ and couldn't find an answer to my question, so my apologies if it's been asked already. Tonight I've had some annoying problems using Amnesia to seperate Alzid from Lord Vyemm in Labs. Basically what would happen is the bruiser would pull, I'd cast Amnesia, but after Alzid killed me he would go after the rest of the raid, despite them not doing anything at all to make him angry. I know the spell landed because my recast timer was going, but I also heard the little sound it makes when a spell gets resisted, and I thought I read somewhere once that a mob can resist some effects of a spell but not others, like with Deep Focus a mob could resist the stun but the power drain would still land. So my question is, is it possible that this is what was happening here? That Alzid resisted the mem wipe but the stun still landed, so I couldn't cast it again as he went after the rest of the raid? <div></div>

<DIV>Sounds like a simple resist to me. Since the bruiser did not damage Alzid then when you cast Amnesia and were resisted you went to top of the aggro list. You got killed so Alzid went back to killing the bruiser. Had it happen to me many times.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

yes, it sounds like alzid resisted your whole amnesia and your recast was only your resistes recast which has a shorter duration.but as for alzid...what are you doing? cast amnesia immediately or cast some debuffs like marred psyche and then amnesia?
