just had an amusing story last night. when i was a young mystic, a very kind chanter helped our group get carpets by being over 55 and mezzing the adds and thus making it a much easier fight. that moment was also the one which convinced me i wanted to play an enchanter, and ultimately to decide on the true enchanter, the coercer.but also, ever since then i've vowed to help anyone that requests my assistance for the end carpet fight. just such a call came late last night, and while i was quick to join, i was a little concerned since the group was 1 healer, and 4 tanks, all of which were well under 60 (48-55 iirc). i love to try anything, but this group looked like the fight would be nearly impossible./shrug let's give it a shot anyway.after setting up DPS on the older tanks and demenour on the MT, the MT pulled and we were off. i got awe off right away and started stunning the genie like crazy, but once the stuns ran out (and i didn't want to risk awe resisting after so i didn't use wail & remez, rather i just solo mezzed each minion), the young tanks died very quickly, leaving just myself the 55 tank and the healer barely standing while the boss was getting close to 50%.when the djinn's health was at 20%, everyone in the group was down except me. granted, i was 63 and the boss was green. but it scared the crap out of me, and i could tell the group was ready to give up at that point (they were typing gah! in chat and this was their 3rd or 4th attempt by now). welp i stifled, i dotted, i threw our measly 500 DD about a hundred times, and i resisted everything he threw at me and just before i almost died... poof! update for the lads, and his minions disappeared.the group was speechless, so i said, "you're welcome", and much merryment was had by all. just thought it was worth sharing, a truly odd fight and outcome, and rather funny imho.

In stark contrast, I remember waiting for a Gates raid and agreeing to help a random person on their "CQ4"...It was right over the sand dune, so why not.I get there and had no problem with any of them speaking English, (actually only one of them talked at all). I tanked the Genie and got a garbled "hello thank you" in response. I'll always remember: Onune, Akpefwe, Flbest and Uyiuhiilgfghbet. This was back in the day and I was naive. I had just helped a group of plat-farmers get their mounts. I'll just pretend that they were only role-playing as bots.

Not everyone with a goofy name and poor English skills is a plat farmer.

And not everyone who uses that line has a clue about probability either...

My point is that seeing a group who is not plat farming and calling them plat farmers based on their names is a huge leap. In case nobody told you, a plat farmer is defined as someone who farms plat, not someone with a goofy name that doesn't speak English.

I remember being an Illusionist helping a group kill the guy in Maj'Duhl. They just asked for a stifle out of group so they start the encounter, the tank pulls (but sadly what I thought was a taunt was merely a body pull). I stifle the mob, he walks up to me, punches me, kills me, and then goes back to the rest of the group. Luckily for them he didn't cast ice comet before he died.

Rarlin wrote:On second thought... ignorance must be bliss.

He's just saying to give them the benefit of the doubt.I know I have some guildies with character names that would make any plat farmer proud. :p But then again their English is fine I guess.

Btw just out of curiousity I looked up "Uyiuhiilgfghbet" on eq2players. His guild rank is "Guild [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn]/Bot". ROFLMAO! Edit: you'll just have to look up the censored part yourself I guess.
Message Edited by Roggobh on 12-13-2006 11:08 AM
