I came back to EQ2 after a LONG break and have gone though almost every class for a few levels to get a feel for what I'd like to play for an extended period of time.I really like the Coecer. It's definately the most fun class to play, but it's also the most frustrating.Nothing sucks more than tackling multiple mobs and then having your pet break charm just as he initiates his attack. Any tips for dealing with this situation? I'm only lvl 15...when can I look forward to an AOE charm? I'm assuming this would help out A LOT.Any other tips for someone that solos 99% of the time? Thanks!

Message Edited by Dark Virtue on 11-21-2006 04:14 PM

I solo most of the time with my coercer, there is a few different methods but my favorite method is as follows. Firstly you need a good quality charm, adp 3 is ok, but if you can get your hands on a master charm you will be killing stuff 2 or 3 times faster. Next i would advise you to stick with non grouped mobs until you get the hang of it and have a few more spells at your disposal. You need to find a hard nuking caster pet, wizzard is best. There is a guide on this forum for good pets thru the tiers. I tend to avoid 3up pets as they can be a pain when charm breaks, the number of arrows a mob has does not make any difference when charmed tbh. Just increases the chance the charmed pet will kill you in one or two hits when charm breaks.

A little trick for caster pets, if you send pet in and instantly back it off, it will stay at range and cast any nuke's it has available, if during a fight it does nothing then its still waiting on recast timers so just send in, back off until it casts. Once you have played with a pet for a bit you'll know how fast its recast is and how fast it casts its nukes. Always have your pet set to not defend itself or protect you, only way you will have total control of the pet.

Once you have found a good pet and suitable mobs to kill its pretty easy from here on. Mez, Root, Debuff target. Once recast is back up on mez, send/back off pet so it casts its nuke then follow it up with another mez. Try to time it so your follow up mez lands just after the pets nuke has landed then you dont have to worry about you or your pet being casted on. Root is not really needed if once you have the timing right as the mob is always mez'd apart from the split second where the pet lands its nuke. I use root more as an extra barrier incase of resists on mez or charm breaking at the wrong time. On melee only mobs you can get away with not mezzing, but again it does help reduce the risk on charm breaks or root resists. Rinse and repeat until the mob is dead. With a good pet and master charm it takes 5-6 nukes from your pet to kill most 3up mobs. Basically anything you can mez/root can be killed with this method.

I use this method over the traditonal tank pet, stun, dot, reactives mainly because good tank pets with enough hp's and good enough taunts are extremely hard to find. Your caster pet will have agro after the first nuke it cast, which if things go wrong will give you enough to time to get it under control without being beated on.

Hope it helps :smileywink:
