<DIV>I am a new Coercer, and I've been surfing the forums for information about tactics. I found lots of posts about how the Beguile spell breaks encounters and how it only lasts 36 seconds. I have two questions:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>1) Does Beguile still break encounters (losing xp)?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>2) Does Beguile last longer than 36 seconds?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>By the way, I can't believe they actually <STRONG>meant</STRONG> for a charm spell to last only 36 seconds!</DIV>

I didn't betray to a coercer until level 50ish, but I can assume you charm spells last much longer than 30 seconds. It's not uncommon for my charm to last full duration (20 minutes as I'm still using the T5 charm). As for breaking encounters, if you charm a mob that is linked to two others, you will still get exp from killing the two other mobs, but since you didn't technically complete the encounter you won't gain the bonus experience for the group kill. Considering it's one encounter out of hundreds you kill, it's not a big deal.

You must have been looking at very old posts, because charm spells haven't worked the way you describe since before LU 13. There are a number of threads about charm that are linked to from the <a href="http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=27&message.id=12782" target="_blank">Coercer FAQ</a> with more recent information.
