<DIV>I'm a new player. I rolled a Coercer on a PvE server to start and progressed to lvl 11. I have heard of people complaining about charms breaking, which makes the class difficult. However, this character has not had one occurance of a charm breaking. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Before I ventured too far into the PvE side, I thought I'd roll up the same character on a PvP server. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I don't know if it was a fluke before, but now my charms are breaking constantly. I'm charming the same level of beasts relative to my level, but they aren't sticking.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Is there a legit difference between charms holding on PvE vs PvP servers, or was I just incredibly lucky on my PvE encounters?</DIV>

I noticed the same thing, I joked with another coercer near by that the devs wanted us to learn to mez, run , nuke early on.

<DIV>I started up a coercer last night on a PvE server and I experienced about 20% of my charms breaking. Although it was usually when I charmed a yellow con mob.</DIV>

<div></div>It's probably just an issue of perception, made the more murky by the random nature of the spell. I only play on a PVE server - so I can't rightfully claim to know if there's a difference between the two - but I do have sessions where charm sticks like clingwrap, and others where it's more fragile than a sack full of Faberge eggs.As I progressed through the spell ranks (I went through long periods of using App1, Adept1, Adept3 and finally Master) I noticed a big difference in charm stability with every upgrade, so the quality of your Charm spell will have a lot to do with how unstable it appears. With Master Dominate my charm doesn't often break early, and I frequently charm high yellows - although of course it still has it's moments of screen-flashing disaster. But isn't that what makes the spell so fun?

<DIV>I decided to go back to my PvE version, and now my charms are breaking here and there. It must have been a total fluke earlier. Odd though; in fact, on my original PvE roll, I had my charmed pet in tow while harvesting raw resources.. never broke.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Now, I'm realizing the challenges of the class having to deal with breaks out of combat and within. But, I have to say, I'm still really enjoying it. It adds an interesting spice to the game.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I just need to decide whether I should stick PvE or PvP. I don't forsee time doing both.</DIV>

Though those scouts are pretty [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] annoying.

The low level charms kind of suck, they break very easily and there are very few decent pets available to use. Befriend and Charm I found breaking constantly, but Coerce and beyond holds mobs fairly reliably. Upgrading the spell also helps. <div></div>

<DIV>PvP isn't that bad. You either have to find groups for protection and support or know your zones very well. There are an aweful lot of instances out there, some that have no requirement to enter, some you talk to an NPC, others you buy or loot a common drop item. So if you need a little alone time to xp or learn your class, plenty of places to hide on PvP server until you ready to go out and try to fight the 10 billion scouts out there that are just drooling for a chance to 1shot a cloth wearing class.</DIV>
