I'm about to hit 70 on my coercer, and in sad need of resist gear. I'm planning on picking up some moonstone/topaz jewelry, but are there any other quest rewards or instance loot drops that are especially good?

Eventually I'll want full sets of all, but to start I'm really looking for magic and cold. Anybody have some good suggestions?

There's a reward from the... 15th? or so step of the claymore quest (if you're willing to get there) that's a very nice sv vs. all ring or earring. Dragonscale Ring? Something to that effect. There's also a mob in PoA, on the fourth floor in the hatchery room, called Vexatious Offspring. It drops (rare) an extremely good svs ring (Miniscule Feather Band, 700ish sv all but poison?) and (common) a decent earring (Small Feather Earring? 980sv vs 3 things). There's a trash drop earring from Nizara (if you're just hitting 70 you're going to need to buy this, not camp it), called... Forgotten Stud of Knowledge? 600+sv all? or soThere are a few items from AoA that you can usually pick up for a few plat on the broker, that have 1072sv magic/cold, but I can't remember what they're called now. There's a hat and... something else, at least.Vague descriptions... sorry!

It is for raiding, not pvp. Cold and magic because the first mobs I'll need to worry about AoE's are going to be Vyemm, Harla, Gore, and the crab.

Thanks for the suggestions, sounds like a good place to start.

A) Do QC quest at least finish POA part

ring, belt, symbol ~ +1000-1500 to all

B) If you REALY desperate for resist and you are hibrid coercer (aka MT group but with kicker) get WIS line (I got +500 to all via it)

C) Farm LAB, Farm LAB, Farm LAB - full/mixed set of Meridian/Dragomancer give you really good boost (+1500? to all)

D) Get that Sky Gazer Hat from same LAB - one of the best coercers heads

E) Farm POA for emblem of fludity (soloable) +980 to cold/heat/poison/disease goes in range

Personally I notice only 2 big jumps in my survilubity at ~3500 to all I start mitingate a lot magic damage while solo and at ~8500 I gain ability to withstand AoE (not range based) from mob lvl 74+ with taking minimum damage (like 2-3k a pop instead of 7-

Emblem drop named blob on second floor as a rare

QC notoriously long and boring only in SoS, once you get in PoA things get better - the only real bad step is IronFang

Per se.... in Labs you dont need resist over 3.5K or so but if you have solid MT group you will be clocking above that (my highest resist is cold I am clocking fully buffed 11000). Resist work same way like mitingation for tanks - everything above 6K is kinda waste (rare exception is lvl 74+ mobs)

Gnorbl's Eye isn't bad, from Lyceum its: 426 all resist 10 to all stats 110/110 4 focus. Its an earring/ring slot item

Unfortunate that ear slot by default pre occupied for most coercers (and mages in general) by Orb of Invoker

Right but as far as resists go, it may be worthwhile to replace. That and it also fits in the ring slot, which would give over 1k to all resists combined with dragonscale ring. Which is not bad imo - being on a pvp server myself. The other ring that I personally use is Meridian's Eye which isn't bad for poison/disease.

I never use the orb of the invoker, it's a near wasted slot when there're better things to wear.

When I have to actually mez things, I swap all those things out for gear without procs. Nothing worse than having an arcane debuff proc one of your items, break your mez, and be staring something mean in the face.

Not everyone takes an item for straight DPS... especially when stat-wise, the Orb of the Invoker is pretty much crap. I wouldn't sell it, it's great when farming and such, but an extra ~50DPS from a coercer on a raid is what... <1% of the raid DPS if the raid is coming in at over 5k. I'd rather have survivability than try to keep up with the parser, it's not my job. It's to stay alive to keep my buffs up, turn HO's, stun, etc.

Message Edited by Vydian on 10-03-2006 06:42 AM

Well, the 5k was just an example to show how little ~50DPS is overall. We pull well over that on 2 group vlab farms. Had a necro around 2.5k DPS one fight last night, paid for it too even though it was myself and a dirge hate buffing the MT and I had Link on the necro

Well then conside this

Stats means atm less then nothing ... int always capped, +-100 power lol then you regeneration roughly 200 points per tic again next to nothing, +-100HP then AoE from any trash then you have over 10000 resist STILL hit you for 2-3K a pop - next to nothing ... What else? - resistance? lol +-1K resistance in any area then you raid buffed comming up with lowest resist above 6K - again nothing. In other words in light what I have said +50DPS best you can squeeze - well ... unless you can find better proc (like spell haste say)

Vydian
10-04-2006, 06:32 AM
While I agree caps are an issue right now, they won't when the new combat changes go live. And I would still take resists over 50DPS, or even a better effect like FT or something. I realize FT isn't as important to coercers, but if you're capped and trying to get everything out of your gear, there's better than 50DPS for raids usually.

http://eq2players.station.sony.com/en/pplayer.vm?characterId=298947109 This is what I am running with ATM, I have some of my gear switched out atm but it isn't very hard to get 80%. I can get every single one up to around 8-9k (not all at once but any one stat) by switching out some gear and most of mine is vendor bought. The T7 crafted robe I wear is better than that "Fabled" one that drops from the nest, it has a decent proc if you need power but the resists suck and how often does a coercer need power, the crafted robe has decent resists across the board.
