<DIV>I have noticed that when playing my Coercer, it seems as if no matter what I charm, it does not hold aggro. At first I thought this was due to my heavy nuking to compensate for the charmed pets lack of HPs, but then realized that no matter what my level of interaction with target is, I will pull aggro off the pet. Do charmed pets not taunt? What am I doing wrong?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Having played a Necromacer to the same level as my Coercer, and comparing summoned -vs- charmed pets ... I am at a loss. The summoned pet has nearly twice as many HPs and holds aggro through just about everything, including AE's on groups of 3+ mobs. I am left feeling that either charmed pets are super gimped, or I am very dense and cannot comprehend how to improve my Coercer playstyle...</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Any and all advice is greatly appreciated!</DIV>
Use your aggro up line on the charmed pet, first off. Then, it is about pet selection. Try to get a pet who nukes more. Damage is a big taunt. Get a pet who can heal itself. Heals also a big taunt. Plus, most healers can nuke. Finally, master charms. I have a 70 conjuror, and I didn't have a master pet until my final tank pet. It never seemed to matter. Adept III was always fine. However, the difference between Adept III and Master I for charms makes just so much difference.

<DIV>Dunno how things are at higher lvls as I'm still a noob (lvl 27) but as long as I root the mob and let my pet get the first couple of shots in, everything works out just fine. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I don't think it's really fair to compare charmed pets to summoned ones though. Summoned pets do X amount of dmg, have X amount of health, etc. Charmed pets go off of whatever mob you pick and they survive as long as you allow them too. That's why usually getting one that can heal itself is the better choice. While I'm in a group, I usually only Charm just for CC reasons. But every now and then I like to pick up a mage and watch how much dmg they can do. Good stuff. =)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Lots of things to take into consideration when you pick a pet.....especially if you are solo.</DIV>

Charmed mobs behave just like normal mobs, except they fight for you instead of for themselves. Do you see a lot of mobs running around taunting constantly? No. It's not really part of their bag of tricks.<div></div>

Yea I haven't had much trouble otw to lvl 50 with pet aggro management. These pets aren't conj/necro pets who taunt regularly. They only taunt if the pet is a mob who taunts normally, which are often tank mobs that make bad charmed pets in general lol.Best advice is use the hate % increase spell on em since it takes no conc, and to let pet get in a few hits before nuking. Also keeping mob rooted will help, as well as choosing higher dps pets or improving your charm to M1.<div></div>

I get charm, hate and dps buffs as m1, and then apply both hate and dps buff on the pet. If I go too trigger happy I can still rip aggro, but its nowhere near as much of a problem as it was before I did that.<div></div>

Its not an apples to apples comparison.</P> <P>Did you take a look at some of the strategies in the stickied charm guide? While the guide is a little old now, the basic concepts still apply.</P> <P>There is no need to rely on taunts because you have something that is mroe relaible in your stuns. Granted, if you are not 60+, you won't have as many at your disposal, but if you have a caster pet charmed, and aren't killing ^^^'s, a couple stuns and stifle+daze should give you and your pet more than enough time to polish off the mob.</P> <P>Coercer pets are glass cannons, which means you can't expect them to tank fopr you, but you can expect them in some cases to do more DPS than any other class. There are a few pets (Gylton on SoS for example) that have 60,000+ hitpoints and can do a little tanking, but if you tactics are sound, you really don't need that. A big problem is charmed pets seem to have cloth mitigation,</P> <P>I hate to sound like a broken record, but you have to remember that charm is a form of crowd control and not a summoned pet. I mean, how can charmed pets compete with summoner pets when we have no pet buffs, stances, or pet heals?</P> <P>Cyene</P>

<P>Buff your pet with aggro and DPS</P> <P> </P> <P>keep your encounters unlocked, thats another bug, mobs wont recognize your pet if its locked (pet isnt considered in YOUR encounter...if that makes sense)</P>

<P>All the above is correct. But to emphasize one point, let your pet get in the first couple shots, if you root first your pet will need to overcome that much more aggro.</P> <P>Get the best of both worlds...sort of. In EL and Nek and other places there are necro mobs with pets of their own, charm these guys for your own mini group!</P>

I almost always drop Incitement to put Impetus on the pet. And I almost always wear the Skywatcher robe with a pet.<div></div>
