Either you had really bad luck, or I had really good luck. I grabbed a deep orange mob in Zek this afternoon and got myself a level in about a half hour. Only two breaks. Adept 3 Coerce.<div></div>

<DIV>Eh, I can see where people get this though.  Random Number Generators are failrly non-random..having streams of like numbers.  Thus, you get nights where Charm will never break (or crits will appear like every other case) and nights where your resists are through the roof and charms break every 20 seconds.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Last night, my charms were going swell, lasting until the end of the duration.  Suddenly, blue mobs were breaking my charms (normal mobs, not even ^) about 2x a minute.  After 5 or so minutes of this, I logged off and made some dinner.  When I got back...everything was back to normal.  Some other poor sot got the bad stream of numbers the RNG created....</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

<div><blockquote><hr>Riz wrote:<div>Eh, I can see where people get this though.  Random Number Generators are failrly non-random..having streams of like numbers</div> <hr></blockquote>Random Number Generators, when used properly, are more random than necessary for anything, super secret cyptography and such excluded. Truthfully, they're plenty random for that, but you play every card you can when you're trying to keep nuclear weapons codes secret. What people don't understand is that random things <i>can be</i> and <i>are</i> streaky. Flipping a coin 500 times and getting 5 heads in a row at one point doesn't mean your coin is broken. Streaky = broken RNG is a stupid dogma that has been around the forums forever, and it's perpetuated by people who have no clue what they're talking about.</div>

<DIV>Wow, you managed to repeat exactly what I said and sound snotty toward me in the process.  Streaky != true random.  Have you ever read the C++ source for the random function?  I promise it's the one the game is using.  Sure, it's good enough for a game (and most other applications) but it's NOT random.  It's a plot of the bell curve that's seldom properly shuffled.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>There are better ways to shuffle the preset numbers.  Most game developers simply don't utilize them.  The RNG is great for creating a sampling of the numbers, but they really should be shuffled after they are created.  They most often are not.</DIV>

Streaky numbers <u>does not</u> mean a broken RNG. You are confusing the word "random" with "even". In the process you are demonstrating that you are one of the ignorant people around here perpetuating ignorant dogma, leading to more ignorant people. If you flip a coin, you have a 50% chance of getting heads.Flip again, you have a 50% chance of getting heads.Flip again, you have a 50% chance of getting heads...Flipping that coin 500 times will generally get you about 250 heads and 250 tails because we have a large sample of random events. That does not mean you will get heads, tails, heads, tails, heads, tails... Any deviation from heads, tails, heads, tails... would mean our coin is broken, according to your "streaky != true random" logic. This is obviously not true, otherwise all the change in my pockets is broken. In fact, guaranteeing that you don't get streaks means your event is <u>not</u> random, otherwise you could win every coin flip by flipping your coin first, observing the outcome, and betting on the other outcome the next flip.</div>
