I got this from the post that says post 19 charm guide just curious if it is still an issue

2) Anyone in the group giving Mental Resist buffs or casting Group Cure Arcane will cause charm to break more often (this includes the coercer power/mental group buff...yes you want to drop it while charming).

Message Edited by latrocinor on 08-23-2006 02:20 PM

The bigger issue is in groups where some priest buffs increase mental resistances for the entire group, including your charmed pet.

Has anyone actually confirmed that it worked?

I have been in groups sometimes where there are 2 mental buffs running and my pet lasts the duration, other groups where there are no mental buffs and the pets break in 5 minute intervals...

Yup Templer and Inqi mental buffs are bad.

With the same pet, with their buff on the charm holds the most time for like 10min, without thier buff 25min to 30min

I would assume that all group mental buffs are going to increase the chance of charm breaking...except for the Power of Mind line as stated in the notes.

Yes, non-chanter mental buffs singificantly impact charm durations. I do find it odd that only the chanter buffs where changed.

I’m personally a little sceptical with regard to our resist buff not making charm drop. After all the icon is still on the pet.

Chrysostom wrote:

Yes, non-chanter mental buffs singificantly impact charm durations. I do find it odd that only the chanter buffs where changed.

Given the fact we can't compare realism on Earth the way peeps see it in Norrath....I think its true to the lore and understanding of magic. WE charm the pet, and should be able to control what buffs and spells should hit our pets (realistically we wouldn't wanna increase our chance of charm breaking). Our GROUP doesn't have the specialization that a chanter does, therefore has no control over what buffs and spells would effect our pet.I think its reasonable the way it is.....if its not bugged.

jddrogs wrote:
just make everything single cast cept for a few spells like EQ1 .. problem solved ....

Ugh...no, let's not. I went through the hassle of maintaining several single-target, limited duration spells across multiple party members when I played Red Mage in FFXI, and I think I'd probably quit the game if it were introduced here--or reintroduced, since I understand most spells were that way when EQ2 first came out, and were changed to their present form during one of the earlier LUs. I would much rather have to deal with asking the Templar or Inquisitor to turn off his/her mental buff than have to worry about anything even remotely resembling Refresh and Haste cycles.
