So I got posession the other day, and decided to try it out on some of the giants in Lavastorm. First one I posessed was fun, freaked out my guildmates (what's with the rainbow connection tho? :smileyvery-happy: ) and made me laugh, then we killed it.

I went running to find another one, but it was wayyyyy on the other side of the volcano, so i posess it, and start running back to my group again, and when i'm about halfway there, suddenly posess breaks, and my toon is being attacked! By a grey pather giant!! My posessed mob was far away from where my toon was, so I don't know what exactly happened, but I shouldn't be getting agro from a grey mob!

So anyway, has anyone else noticed this when posessing lower level mobs? I'll have to test more (haven't used it since that day) but yeah... that was annoying to get agro on a grey mob lol!

There's some sort of level-related bug with Possession, I think. I've seen it once too, where grey mobs around you will aggro you if you possess something that would be a low enough level to be aggroed by them. Don't confuse this behavior, though, with the incredibly annoying fact that a possessed mob is KoS to pretty much everything and that any mobs you aggro as your possessed mob will come straight for your character no matter how far away s/he is.

Not only what you say, but group members who barely grey out a zone will get a surprise if you possess a mob in the zone. Suddenly everything around them is alive!

Possession does seem to be a little whacky though. And it seems that its behavior changes over time. I have been able to possess mobs, and get thrown out of the mob somehow when some other mob attacks my toon, but the possession is still in effect.

I have also had times where I possess a mob, and start fighting another mob with it, and at the end of the possession, sometimes both mobs are coming for me, and sometimes they just continue to duke it out. I can't seem to get any reliable duplication of either action though. Usually, if I start a fight with a mob, throw my pet at him, possess a nearby mob and attack with him, when the possession is over, the previously possessed mob has no memory of what happened, and stays out of my business.

The only thing I have figured out beyond a shadow of a doubt, is that a possessed mob does not count as part of your encounter. If you start a fight with a possessed mob, you will not get xp for it, regardless if you hit the mob once, or completely destroyed it, with the possessed mob. If you have your encounters unlocked, you can grab something to spam a few hits with, and run him off, and I think you've just managed a little free dmg from a possessed mob. But if your encounters are locked, and you possess something close by, you can't do a thing with it, except run it around and confuse the tank.

If anyone truly knows the real mechanics, I'd love to hear them. It seems like they are either changing over time, or they're just generally flaky, and you can't count on any consistent behavior.

From what I've seen Possession works quite well actually, the mechanics are just hard to get the hang of. If you possess a mob, you become that mob, down to the level, which causes you to become aggro-able to things who would not normally aggro you. So while this doesn't help you nearly as much while running around Feerrott at 70 it's pretty handy while fighting things that are kicking the ever living crap outta your tank.I've used mobs to steal aggro from the tank and then die off before the 36sec are up, thus saving a beating to my tank. Also handy for simple added dps, which the correct mobs (like your pet spell) can do quite a bit, a lot more than I normally can in the time frame allotted. The thing you have to keep an eye on is if you take aggro from your tank and your pet doesn't die, when possession runs out you are 90% of the time dead when both mobs turn on you.As far as breaking while it's up, get the master, was one of the first ones I bought and I still think it's [Removed for Content] awesome. I think it's one of the coolest spells I've played with yet in the game, and while it takes a bit of practice to master, it's well worth it.
A small heads up about possesion.

When you charm a mob its almost imposible to get your pet to help u if you have encounter locking on.

If you keep encounter locking off you can park your pet a long way off and send it in before casting posses and you can help each other kill the target.

Also there is a small bug with targeting after possesion drops. It will seem like you have the mob you have been fighting while possesing targeted but it is infact the mob you possesed thats the target. So if you use a none agro mob to posses and cast a spell after possion drops you will hit it and it will agro you.

You have to retarget. Even if it seems like you have the right target.

There are a number of other funky things about possion so be carfull when you use it. Like when you posses a mob and jump down from something tall, sometimes it will kill you if the mob dies sometimes it will not.

Good to see you're not banned for the forums any longer. Anyway, possession is a glorified funspell =/ It's uses are limited and the duration is much too short. If this spell had the same duration as charm, it might be worthwhile. But, as it is I haven't used it other than the day I scribed it to play around with it. The concept is cool, but it could be so much more.

I have to agree. I even blew a few plat on the master, hoping it would make some sort of difference, but the duration is still far too short to be useful even then. One of the biggest problems with it, I think, is that you can't use it on mobs that you're already engaged in combat with. At least if you could do that, it might provide a somewhat reliable source of extra DPS, but as it is its use conditions are too limited to be very practical.
