I'm a warden. I chose the agility AA line. It gave me charm animal and mez animal. I charmed a lvl 51 scorpion and setout to reek havoc amongst its brethren. After 40 or so blue kills I noticed I had accumulated about 0.5% experience. Is this normal for charmed pet experience? I always cast my elemental debuff/DOT and at least 1 or 2 HO nukes so I'm contributing to damage.

I was wondering if my more experienced brethren could shed some light on the subject.

Thanks

Wistful Warden of Najena

Nope they didn't nerf the exp you receive while having a pet. I think you are exaggerating, or you had a lot of debt.

if you are using let the pet kill itself tactic, than recharm the old mob, than it seems about right.

No, I didn't have any experience debt. I just wasn't accumulating much exp. My tactic is to let the 2 mobs fight it out and let my pet be near death at the end then I break charm and kill my pet and get a new one. From what you're saying it seems the druid line of charm may have some coding issues.

From what it sounds like, he's not doing that.

However, I think I might understand what's going on.

When they opened encounters, to allow others to heal you or kill the thing you are killing, they made it so you get reduced xp if you aren't the one that did most of the damage on the mob.

Which means if you let the other mob do most of the damage (yeah, even another NPC doing most of the damage will reduce your xp), then that would explain the drastic drop.

This isn't a change to how pets work. This is how unlocked encounters work. Technically the "letting the pet get hurt" tactic isn't really intended use of a pet. It's like a "mini" version of the "let the pet die and get full xp" bug that was removed.

Use your pet to kill things the proper way and get full xp... or do it the easy way and get a drastic reduction in xp. It's still good for clearing or getting updates though.

Even locked encounters, his pet would be attacking. I have never experienced this issue at all.

He isn't talking about the Mob giving little experience... his tactic is to let the mob beat on his PET until his PET is low on health and then he breaks charm and kills it.

It's not the mob giving little experience, it's the pet being "almost killed" by the mob and then killed by him that's giving little experience.

I would say possibly that might be the case, but I have never really done that to a great extent to measure the exp gains from it.

Yeah.. I'm not sure either. It's a possibility.. barring any other factors.

I would have a hell of a time trying to find out now, since xp gains on AA's only shows when each bubble inreases... nothing in between. So I'm not inclined to try and test this myself.

You know those times you would be soloing a ^ ^ ^ with a pet, but the mob never once turned to the pet, he kept you targeted. No matter what you did, what aggro reducers, etc, he would still target you.

My friend fixed that by unlocking his encounters (We fought with auto-lock). Soon as he did that, the problem was solved.

Plus there were times on my coercer, where my encounters were never locked while pulling with my pet. This was back when you could chain pet for XP. I always played with auto-lock so random people wouldn't interrupt my chain routine, yet people were still able to attack my targets.
