So i took advice and now I'm doing fine charming. what I do is I charm a mob and let him take some dmg and do most the killing. I get through about 3 fights then since his life is low, I abandon him and kill him off. It's working pretty well so far. Only really having trouble getting ganked now. Here's my new question -- I've noticed people talking about getting pets that nuke and do dmg. What kinds of pets can u get around lvl 13 that will do this? I charm a beetle and he'll slowly take life away from a guy, but nothing significant.. he's just a tank at that point. Also, can I charm mobs that are higher lvl? How much higher if so?<div></div>

The best pets to choose if you want DPS are ones that cast spells. You can detemine the type of mob either by fighting it or if you are an erudite you can use your sense aura innate ability and it will cause mobs to glow depending on their type. If you find you are fighting a healer type of mob, try charming it and see if it's any good. They are quite handy for normal bumming around killing solo mobs because you can just send them in and do nothing if you don't want to. Fury type pets also nuke quite nicely too.If you choose a warlock or wizard type pet, don't use them for tanking. You need to root the mobs away from you, send your pet in then immediately back it off once it starts to cast a nuke. That way the spell will complete but your pet will be stood next to you instead of getting a hiding to nothing from the mob you are fighting. You can charm mobs above your level. Anything yellow seems fine in my experience, although some mobs have inherant mental resistance and will break from charm quite often. The damage a mob does with its nukes is determined by the quality of your charm spell. App 1 charm means your pet nukes with App 1 abilities. It doesn't seem to be a linear progression through the spell ranks though. Master 1 charm is about 3 times better than Adept 3.As for good mobs to try at your level, well to be honest I can't remember. Beetles, dogs, lions, rhinos, etc are all crap. Some of the skeletons at Val'Marr are not bad if you can find a nuker one, but are a bit high for you yet (~lvl 17/1<img src="/smilies/b2eb59423fbf5fa39342041237025880.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />. Maybe something around the outside of the Wailing Caves, or I think there is a Bloodskull priest or something similar that might be decent.<div></div>

<DIV>OH! Yoyo the pet! heh</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Maybe that's part of my problem as well. But most of what I've found so far has just been tank mobs anyway. I snuck over to the spot in Bonemyre and got a corpse candle, but I was a corpse before I got out with him. =) He was orange to me.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I'll try that when I get home.</DIV>

<DIV>Just to add that I am also level 13 with a app III Charm, all I could afford, and the spiders near the Sprawl are decent. I was able to keep them through 2 or 3 fights. I think the one thing that I have to keep learning about the class is that a lot of our spells have interupts on them and stuns.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Just need to remember what to use when and not to. Had a blast over the weekend with mine. Upgrading is a pain in the [Removed for Content] though, not getting the coin intake to ofset the spell upgrades.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>My charm App III says up to 8 minutes for a charm, I think I got about 6 and half last night on the spider.</DIV>

I think if you use the pet to tank there are more chances for it to break from charm. I had a Kromtorr Magi (lvl 59^^) charmed last night for some DPS in a group I was in, and it only broke charm when Dominate (Master 1) expired. This is pretty much always the case in a group, but when soloing the pet can occasionally break whilst I have sent it in to "tank".<div></div>

^^ No, your not preaching the obvious, a few of us completely forgot about the fence until it was mentioned. So, thanks!
