View Full Version : Observations about my Coercer

I have been trying to quit my lvl 25 coercer for the last three months as I lvl alts up to 20 to see if I like them better. I have a troubador, inquisitor, and a 16 defiler. I really like my coercer and the power to control others and situations but he is very, very squishi. So I began to look for other support characters that were useful but not as squishi.

The problem is that they all seem rather, you know, weak compared to my coercer. I can solo mobs that groups the same lvl as me are fighting. Yes, I have to be perfect or I'll die but that makes me feel very powerful when I can pull it off.

I also realize that I am a dps class. I didn't realize it until I played the main healer role and was fretting over howw long it took to kill mobs or lack of crowd control. So now I'm back to my coercer and things seem like a breeze now after playing the healer classes.

Question: Is there a way to make my guy less squishi? I'm constantly looking around for hidden mobs so I won't get jumped in groups.

I know there are other dps classes but I want a class that can support and solo. This seems to be one of the few that can besides the million furies out there.

Paltaye - the living wall

I have both a 70 Bruiser and 70 Coercer... and I tell ya, I miss some of the things from either class.

When playing my Bruiser, I wish I could mez better than that little crappy mez they get... and wish I could grab a pet out of the mob that's nuking the crap out of me to add to my DPS. Not to mention roots.. god I would kill for having a 45s root on my Bruiser!

When playing my Coercer, I wish I could survive more than 3-4 hits against heroic mobs, and sorely, sorely miss FD. Self heal is very nice too... nothing like sitting at 2% after a fight to have something add and then your mez resists. :smileysad:

I really don't know of many ways to make yourself less squishy. I can tell ya, you'll get better DPS and control abilities in the following levels, and in a duo you can be fearsome (just need someone else to take the hate).

I'd suggest finding someone to duo with if you can, or tough it out until you hit your 30s, and you'll start to get better and better as controlling (and thus not needing to worry over squishiness as much).

For amazing survivability in solo, you could try a Bruiser. But it's like.. nearly the opposite tactics of the coercer. You take the hits, and beat the mob down as fast as you can. The little crowd control you get (mez and fear) are basically to give you a little extra time if you need to wait on your self heal. Used to have decent stun chaining, but that's been nerfed hard.

I can solo heroics with both characters though... and there's major advantages to not having to deal with creatures hitting you. Highly dependant on resists and charm breaking, but with the right pet, my Coercer can take down stronger things that my Bruiser couldn't come close.

I dont have the numbers but I will bet money that coercers generely have the worst kill/death ratio.

I know that I rule my guild roster in that aspect.

Its a good thing death is meaningless.

Heh, yah. My coercer's KvD is like. . .29, I think. But get me in a group and the healer's bored. Or we can survive 4 yellow encounters simultaneously. . . . .

Lets just put it this way, I'm on first name terms with almost every mender in the game .

I was beginning to think I was just the suck.

That is definately true...

I used to hate dying when playing my other chars. Debt... equipment cost... respawning far away... the whole shock of not just failing to win, but getting owned.

Then I played the trial and error that is the coercer. I'll tell you one thing, I'm far, far braver now after playing my Coercer than before. Much more blazé about death, once you've brought yourself down to naked trying to find the right tactic in killing a particular mob solo.

Definately a change of pace after playing a class that can Feign Death when things go wrong!

Heh.. my Coercer has less than a third the played time compared to my Bruiser... but less than half the KvD ratio!
