View Full Version : Befriend broken?
<DIV>I recently rolled another Coercer after deleting at least 2 of them to make room for a guild recruiter or some other silly reason. All 3 of my recent Coercers had Befriend to Adept III, the first one never had any problems with the charm breaking early, sure it did occassionaly, but I expect that from a random number generator. The second coercer was around the time the stability of the charms was increased but some bug got in and the charm broke early for everyone lvl 1-70, and was fixed, and I could tell it was fixed. A few weeks ago I rolled my current Coercer and gave him the adept III Befriend, went though Outpost, Sunken City, and most of the Graveyard without noticing any problems with befriend breaking early. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Well today I load him up to finish the Graveyard, find a yellow con skeleton to charm and do so. Less than 60 seconds later screen flashes yellow, mez/recharm, go another minute and another yellow screen. So thinking it was because I had a yellow con mob as a pet, I charmed a couple white cons, then a couple blues and all the same thing.. 30 seconds to 2 minutes later the screen would flash yellow and I'd be recharming or dead. I did have one rat charm for the full duration, I released him, recharmed, and you guessed it, 30 seconds later yellow screen, recharmed, 30 seconds later another yellow screen so I nuked him to oblivion and gave up. Loading my Necromancer now as I type this...</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I do realize it has some randomness to the duration but today was not fun at all literally having to recharm my pet every 60 battle, I asked in the game-wide coercer chat and the higher levels arent seeing this problem so it may be limited to this particular low level spell. Anyone else having a problem with befriend lately?</DIV>

<P>The only times I ever had that problem consistently was when I was doing one of the following:</P> <P>-Forgot to turn off my mental resist group buff</P> <P>-Charmed mobs with naturally high mental resists</P> <P>-Had adept 1 or lower charm</P> <P>Other than that I really haven't noticed charms breaking any more often than I'd expect. I still have to re-charm during a fight every now and then even with a master 1 charm but, as you said, it's the nature of a random number generator.</P>

The RNG can be really streaky. The other night I was helping a guildmate with some quests in PoF and had a Windsister Stormfeather (green to me) charmed, and it broke once every 2-3 minutes on average. On the other hand, I've had level+1 ^^^ pets stay charmed for Dominate's full duration several times in a row. Charm resists, even at M1, are incredibly random at times, so I wouldn't worry too much if you had a streak of bad luck; chances are, it'll even out over time.
<DIV>I kinda figured it could be the worst of the worst when it came to the RNG, but I will have to check and see if I even have the mental resist buff yet at lvl 9. It just went past what I would consider "streaky". I /bug'd it in game so someone might look at it and if it is broken we'll see a fix...</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Once I get up a few levels I have Coerce (Master I) waiting for me so I have reason to stick it out for a little while at least. :smileytongue:</DIV>

I use an Apprentice 1 Coerce spell... makes life veeery interesting at times. 3 more levels though and i can get back some stability with an adept 3</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>RNG? pfff, random my furry behind! It anylises just how dangerous the situation is and if it is bove a certain danger level, the mob breaks. Thats how it works. :smileytongue:</DIV>
