<DIV>I know with Named NPC's we cannot charm them, but I was trying to get a pet to do some duoing with a necro and kept getting this message "Spell will not work on target". I first thought ok maybe its my level they are yellow to me and my spell might be too weak. However I am now 52 and they are 47 to 49 and I still get the message - my next charm isnt until 61 (kos expansion)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Permafrost - Giants</DIV> <DIV>Sinking Sands - Desert/Dune Terrantuals, and Those pulverizers in the bay of annk.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>So basicly - What gives, I am a corecer its my ability - it says no where in the spell descriptions that I cannot charm these normal heroic mobs.</DIV>

some mobs that are flagged as sought after for quest updates writs or even just not many of them for questing ect are flagged no mezz so coercers cant lock up questing... or if a pet is just too darn uber they flag it too imo...

There are some mobs that don't seem to have any good reason why they're not charmable, though. The most recent examples I've noticed are the water elementals (sea splash, I think they're called) around the back door to Silent City in SS. They're not required for any quests that I'm aware of, and they don't do particularly impressive damage. Also in SS, if I remember right the skeleton snakes aren't charmable either; those are needed for one of the Peacock Club quests, but there are so many of them that it seems hard to believe they'd disallow charm on that basis. Sometimes it seems like the developers disable charm on a mob type just to be annoying (though it's far more versatile than Beastmaster's charm was in FFXI, which couldn't affect undead or sentient mobs at all, so I'm not complaining).

I usually charm the invis seeing monster out of a group of monsters as this usually is a scout/mage that deals higher damage.I think the reason why many unimportant mobs are uncharmable is a huge design flaw.If I remember correctly there was a problem around LU13. Player damage was extremely low as mobs had the same mitigation a player could have. So SOE removed almost all mitigation from mobs and gave them massive amounts of hitpoints. Due to that our spells do as much damage as the description says. In return the spells of the monsters have to be very high to do damage againts our high mitigation. The result is that mobs (with very high damage spells) that fight against mobs (with no mitigation) sometimes uber damage. The easiest way for SOE to "fix" this is to make high damage (many damage spells) mobs uncharmable. Another example are the sirens in SS that do A LOT of damage against players. Or the bloodblooms (or whatever the plants are called) in Tenebrous Tangle, which have been made uncharmable only recently. So the uncharmable mobs are often an "easy way out" solution from SOE. I expect more and more mobs to be flagged uncharmable in the future =(</div>
