View Full Version : Am I the only one?
I read all the post here and all I see is people complaining/leaving etc, maybe its because im only lvl 49 and have'nt raided much. I love this class and I keep finding new things to make it even more enjoyable(i.e. casting Tyrannical mind on a Q, than sprinting and waiting for them to sprint and seeing a big number ^_^)Hell i love the class in PvE and am told Im the best coercer that they've played with in most groups(ego boost <3), I love support classes so must be why I enjoy it so much. So am I the only one who enjoys playing the coercer?

The Coercer is a GREAT class and loads of fun. It is the best risk vs. reward and one of the most complex classes, which I think is the heart of it being fun. That is, player skill is a huge part of playing a Coercer. Almost ALL complaints I have read from and about coercers stem directly and only from being gutted in a raid environment. Well... and recently from the same gutting being extended to 65+ heroic content. Trouble is.. after you are 70 (which I am) raiding can become a HUGE part of the game. So you get to spend most of your time with that gutted feeling.Presumably there is a fix coming down the pipe for the raiding issues soon. So enjoy your Coercer to the hilt! It is definately my favorite class, I am glad you like it too.

I too love playing my coercer. She's been my main since game release. However as the poster above said, in raids it can be quite depressing at times!

At this stage though I feel more sorry for Illusionists

Crowd control way back in T5 was essential. I remeber getting adds in Everfrost wayyyy back in the day and without an Enchanter, encounters woulda lead to full wipes. In T6 crowd control started to get phased out and in T7 its almost not even needed. You know how many times when I was xping and got adds and actually mezzed them ? How about 0. I would actually slow down dps. Crowd control is not needed at all in T7 except for 1 or 2 RAID encounters. While xping, I know tanks that could get 7 adds at once and handle it with EASE. In T5, I never once got an immune message on a mob, or even anything that wasn't a named Epic. Walk into Halls of Fate now and be ready to become an autobot. Thats one of MANY examples.Crowd Control, in my opinion, in T7 is DEAD.

I've always been happy with my Coercer. Our powers are subtle and many and it's always a challenge to see HOW I can use my new spells, newly nerfed spells, newly fixed spells, newly changed spells, to my advantage. From beta to now I can't say how many times I've changed strategies but I've almost always found a way to make myself usefull in a group and/or doing amazing things solo. The ONE thing that usually puts a damper on my happiness as a Coercer are "safe" groups. You know the ones, they build the perfect group with a higher level big meaty tank, 2 healers, and throw some DPS in the rest and you end up in there cause they ran out of DPS LFG. These kinds of groups will not face anything they cannot handle by design. They will end up fighting blues all day, the tank will never go below 80% health, and adds are just something for the tank to aggro and everyone just put out DPS. They play it SAFE. Boring for a Coercer. I might as well put someone on follow and eat chicken wings. Give me a group with a tank thats fighting mobs higher than him. Give me a group that moves around and goes deeper and deeper into dungeons so they start to run into things that are more challenging. Give me a group with only 1 healer so that mezzing an add might be needed on occasion. Give me a group with a 62 main tank that wants to TRY to take out the level 67 named cause they think they might have a chance. Give me a group that pushes things to the edge, doens't play it safe, and tries to to do amazing things. THEN I will save their bacon, make them able to do things they shouldn't, and everyone might die, but if we don't, they will all say..."Man, what an awesome group"...and then I'll say in my head..."It was ALL ME." And chances are, noone else in the group will realize that it really WAS me that made the difference. And if the above gets my head too swelled with ego...I just go on a raid to fix that.

No way you are not the only one! I soooooo love playing my coercer :smileyvery-happy: After playing a healer it's so much fun to kill those guys with a charmed pet. I think the real trick is pet managment which of course makes this class so fun. I can say without a doubt that at least solo this class is way easier to work with than a healer. I get the raid thing and agree with others that something needs to be done here, but otherwise this classis the MOST fun to play!

Jede / 47 Coercer

Crepe/ 56 Healer

I think most coercers hit their first major frustration threashold around he T6 raid area and again at around the T7 epic and lvl 65ish heroic area... I never charmed before lvl 44ish because we didnt get charm untill then at that time so can't speak for the early levels of charming wich i have read can be a headache to get used to, but that gets better and worse and then better again.

Me, love it to death but doesnt mean that I wont speak up when I have feedback in either the possitive or "negative" variety. How else the devs going to get an acurate representation of what we want as a class if we don't say hey I want more epic, charm, solo, group abilites ect... Just because soemone is giving their feedback (constructive or not) does not mean they hate the class. In the end if they hated it that much they would quit (and many have).

/agreeWent on my first big raid this weekend in Temple of Scale and really got my first taste of 'kicking back' in a group/raid environment. Many spells cannot be used. Giving mana and buffing the others. Kinda boring. Outside of that I think the coercer is the most fun to play and takes the most thought. Solo, duo, group it's great fun. Any word on 'what' those changes 'are' coming down the pipeline?

I've been spending the majority of my "kicking back" time this last week keeping my power undet the 30% line for dps... I'm hoping when i max out the agi line it will not just rot on my mana bar...

Coercer is the most amusing class in EQ if you like uncertainty and danger. I am in the top raid guild on Darathar PVP (UK), and though I realize its early yet in the raid scheme (we just defeated Venekor and released Frogloks--and they won't even fight for FP grr) I find myself very valuable on raids, mainly of course in the area of power management--combinations of ease, beholder, gorging thoughts, transfer essence then constant manaflows has meant the difference on many raids. In fact I'd say a good 50% of the things we have done would have been impossible without me, and 25% without the active power management: ie gorging thoughts, transfer, mana flow, channel, mana cloak. Of course being the "power master" might not be a fun role for some I understand. I hope they come up with a way for our our stuns stifles etc to at least have some partial effect on epics, perhaps a magnitude system like in City of Heroes. Still there is fair damage, debuffing, and I find charging in for a Sonic Boom (7second stifle on epics) at the right moment can save alot of healing. And of course in normal groups we are outstanding contributors, especially if there are good pets to be had in the area. Not for everyone, but Coercer's are one of the most interesting EQ2 classes I should say. Now if they would just make possession worth having!

Roloc59 wrote:I love this class, makes me hate playing my Assassin.

LOL, I thought I was the only one who felt that way. My main is assassin, but he's been getting progressively less play time as I love coercer more and more. I die constantly, but at least I get the satisfaction of pulling off some crazy fun things in the process. Soloing a yellow^^^ is just something that I could never do with my assassin, but have enjoyed with the coercer. With coercer, you can say "I wonder if..." With assassin, you just know.

"Bah thats easy .... just get perpentuality and you will turn yourself in some sort of machine gun" **** I did a respec and have the Agility line fully complete. While yes it is true I now FEEL like a machine gun, I did not move up perceptibly on the dps rankings at all in raids. Crappy + More Crappy still = Crapppy. Don't be fooled into thinking that you're going to become a dps machine by taking Pereptuality. You will certainly be able to mash buttons A LOT faster tho.

But of course Perpentuality along wont help ya you need gear and buffs that procs damage from hostile spells . Then you combine Grizzwat Stick, Orb of Evoker, Templar Spell/Recast Haste and Perpentuality with Troubadur crits and hostile spell proc ... you will be DPSing even petless like a good warlock
