Ok, I'm a 27 Coercer, (my primary alt that I play more than my main now) and I seem to have hit a bit of a wall.Even with Adept III charm, and choosing a the best pet available (which isn't always that great, I know), I can't seem to solo well.I tried to take a ^^^ named with 2 double down adds, lvl 19, at 27, and just kept getting my [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] handed to me.I know this has been asked a million and 1 times b4, and I do read the boards and use search <img src="/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />, but what are good tactics for a high-20s Coercer? I remember my Fury hitting a wall at this point as well, until things picked up again in the mid-30s.....is this the case with Coercers as well?<div></div>

<div></div><div></div>I am not very adept at soloing but here are a few basic pointers I can offer. If I am wrong, I hope the other coercers here correct me so that I do not point you in the wrong direction:1. Always keep the mob rooted - Heroics, even when 8 lvls below you still hurt a lot. Having low hp and mitigation as a mage, this will pretty much be the case no matter what the lvl. Furthermore, most charmed mobs around lvl 27 are not great DPS so you will be taking the aggro almost certainly in a fight. Therefore, keeping the mob rooted or stunned is essential to coming out of the fight alive.2. Avoid using DOTs - Even though they add to your DPS, DOTs have a chance of breaking your root every time they tick. Therefore, you are better off sticking to your reactives (mob will be hitting the charmed pet for them to proc) rather than risking the root to break in mid-fight. Furthermore, by avoiding to use DOTs, you can quickly mez the mob (if your pet dies for example) without worrying that the mez might be broken in a tick.3. Keep your distance, the farther away from the mob you are fighting, the more time you will have to cast a root or a stun if the one you have on it breaks, the smaller the chance the bugger will hit you.As for soloing, it gets much better at higher lvls. I was, at a point in my 30s, quite frustrated by my solo ability but once you get 40+ or even 50+ things get a lot better, soloing a white or a yellow ^^^ is not a problem unless, and this brings me to another point, you make a mistake. Mistakes, for pretty much any mage class means death.. a quick one at that. Also, do not be afraid to mez the mob and charm a new pet if your current one dies, I used this method to solo some ^^^s that tore through charmed pets in no time.As for ^^^ encounters with guard-mobs, try a group mez, charm one of the guards, single mez the other and attack the big guy... if one guard gets killed, mez the ^^^, charm the other guard... reactives should wear him down.I hope these short pointers can help at least a little. <span>:smileywink:</span><div></div><p>Message Edited by VampTouch on <span class="date_text">03-02-2006</span><span class="time_text">09:14 AM</span></p><p>Message Edited by VampTouch on <span class="date_text">03-02-2006</span><span class="time_text">09:16 AM</span></p>

I usually use my dots even though they have a chance to break root but then I'm the impatient type too <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />-Make sure your damage spells are upgraded too, especially your reactive.-Debuff resists on the mob, it helps cranking the last bit of dmg from your spells.-Charm caster mobs, preferably warlocks if you can find any at your level.Or...Team up, go to RoV or RE and slaughter stuff. Soloing gets much easier when you get up in levels and get better power regen.<div></div>
<div></div><div></div><div></div><p>I started an enchanter (with intentions to become a Coercer) character beginning of January. I really liked what I saw and was even thinking of making that character my new main. However, when I was at level 15 (or somewhere around there...), the big change of the combat system happend. Ever since the combat system change I noticed that it suddenly became very painful being a low level Coercer.</p><p>When fighting something at your own level, the root breaks very easy and the charm breaks very easy as well (leaving you with a double aggro = death). The damage skills are really poor. Besides the Master rage skills (which are not always of any use), my best damage skill is still a relative low level skill (lvl 11 or 12 I think), I'm now at lvl 20! I don't have all my skills at Adept levels, but at least everything is at AppIV. Also at level 20, all my damage skills (exept the Master rage's) are DoT's of some kind making it even more difficult to keep root's. Thank you SOE for bringing this DoT hell to EQ2 :smileymad:.</p><p>Might be that it gets much better at higher levels, but for now being at lvl 20 I see no future for my new favorite character :smileysad:. It's just to painful and time consuming to level a Coercer in this new combat system. I have also tried groups a few times, but I usually find that very boring since the mob often dies before I even manage to land my first hit :smileysad: (it just takes to long time to cast each spell). What is also buggering me is that the Coercer at level 20 still don't have one area damage/mezz skill!? At least the old Enchanter had a one area damage skill...</p><p>A quite frustrated newbie Coercer...</p><p>Message Edited by epf on <span class="date_text">03-05-2006</span><span class="time_text">04:42 PM</span></p><p><span class="time_text">...Cant spell either...</span></p><p>Message Edited by epf on <span class="date_text">03-05-2006</span><span class="time_text">04:53 PM</span></p>

<div></div><div></div><div><em>Edited out no longer valid response.</em></div><div> </div><div> </div><div>Anyways... to take on those pesky heroic named, or group encounters, here's what you do:</div><div> </div><div>1. Mez everything.</div><div>2. Have pet take on one thing at a time, start with the easiest to the hardest.</div><div>3. Use stuns one after another, along with stifles, to keep your pet alive. On the easier arrow down targets, use Reactives instead to kill it faster.</div><div>4. On the ^^^, make sure that it is stunned most of the fight. When your stuns run out and you are waiting on a timer, root or mez and have your pet back off. Send pet back in as your start your stun cycle again. Rely on your pet for DPS, tossing in the occasional nuke if you have the mana for it.</div><div> </div><div>Since this relies on your pet heavily, getting the highest quality of charm just makes this tactic easier and easier.</div><div> </div><div>For example, I was killing the Headhunter lizard men heroic "semi named" in feerott. Solo. At four levels lower (33 vs 37).</div><div> </div><div>I had master 1 in my charm, both stuns (the power drain one and the detaunt one), as well as my root, single mez and debuff eventually. The level 30 masters were proliferent due to RE farming, so I could get them mostly at 20-50g each. Made my mid levels go by VERY fast.</div><div> </div><div>However, you should be able to pull this tactic off reliably on at least an even level encounter with just adept 3 charm... grey should be cake. Just remember to chain your stuns, and back off the pet so he can survive against the ^^^.</div><div> </div><p>Message Edited by Raidi Sovin'faile on <span class="date_text">03-07-2006</span><span class="time_text">12:31 AM</span></p>
