First a bit of a preamble...Last night, even though I swore I'd always avoid alts I just had to try something different so I rolled a Troll Coercer. Granted I'm only level 8 but I must say I am thrilled by how much fun this class is. The fighting i did just on the isle was as interesting and rewarding as any i can remember in eq2 quite honestly. The new island has a final quest you can do which is meant to be grouped, at least I think so. You zone into the cave where the orc captain used to be and there's a group of six mobs you need to take down. intrigued by this new class i was obsessed with soloing it with only the gear you acquire on the island doing quests and the apprentice 1 spells you get as you lvl.I was able to do it at lvl 7 and it was a huge thrill, one of the biggest i can recall. There are 3 named animal mobs and 3 casters. I managed to beat this by charming one animal and having it occupy another. I then mezzed one caster and the remaning animal. i then stunned one of the two remaining casters and beat him down with melee and the arcane fury aa. I had to reapply mez a few times, had to zone twice but i was able to do it with about 8% health remaining the 3rd try.later on in lvl 7 i was taking on four white mobs at a time by charming , mezzing and breaking charm at the right times; combat with this class is a serious thrill. with my assassin i essentially know immediately if i'll be able to win. i'll either overwhelm my opponent with my opening stealth enough that i think i can win with melee and stuns or i don't. with the coercer i already find myself thinking, "nah, i got this". i can already tell i'm going to do a fair bit of dieing but this is definately a class i'm enjoying.so, coming to my two questions...1. ca's - i don't seem to have a spell that matchs the star icon. when i use ca's if i get arcane fury i can complete it, if i get the other one (forgotten name) i don't have a matching ability. maybe this is because i've been limiting myself to apprentice 1 spells you get automatically and i'm missing something.2. i've been reading the 'new coercer' posts and i see a lot of talk about reactives. these sound like buffs cast on our pets. am i simply not high enough lvl for these yet?

Message Edited by Graton on 02-06-200612:10 PM

Hello and welcome. I too think this is THE class for me. I have a guardian 54, and I did stick with it for too long .. talk about closed eyes ... :smileytongue:

I can't unswer the first, but about reactives:

This are spells that you cast on your foe or ally. The foe one, for example, can do MENTAL damage if the foe gets hit by melee attack, sure, based on a % change to trigger. There are ones that do damage(most our damage is mental) if the foe casts a spell, again based on a % change to trigger.

Those are reactives.

Under the "old" system all mages didn't get a spell to complete the "star" icon until level 8 anyways, so that might just be it. It will be your in-encounter AE spell, so watch for it. A dot/debuff we get in between 10-20 also triggers it, in addition to one of our stuns also have that icon. So it's just a level-thing that mages have always had to deal with for HOs.As for reactives, that question was answered. The primary one (at early levels) being sybillant, gained at 24 (23? I don't remember), and damages the mob you cast it on every time the mob attacks something else. And for a LOT too. Best damage spell we get that early really. There's others too that do damage when the mob casts spells/arts, some based on power consumed, and other factors, but basically in a general sense, a reactive is any effect which is triggered or activated not by the casting of the spell, but by something ELSE that happens, be it power consumed, being hit, hitting others, or any other condition. It's an effect which "reacts" to the situations of battle, rather than just the fact that it was cast.
