View Full Version : No-hate Beguile Technique

<div></div>Recently got Beguile, and after all the complaining that goes on in these depressing boards, I was a bit worried about the spell's usefullness.  Well, I love it!  I just wanted to post a technique that I've been using to stop post-charm aggro from my ex-pet. I've found that if my pet is the last mob standing in an encounter, it will always come for me and will take the tank a few seconds to get it off of me.  However, if I wait until all but one of the other mobs in the encounter are dead, and dismiss my pet before that last one dies, my pet will immediately start bashing on the tank and forget about me and all its hatred towards me.  Has anyone else experienced this?  For me, this makes Beguile a common spell in encounters. I love beguiling red^^ mobs, btw.  I don't see why there is so much naysaying about this spell.  It never drops before the total duration, and it not only removes a mob from the other team, but adds a member to yours!  Granted, it would be nice if we could refresh it before it wore off, but most of the time (as I've stated above) I'm dismissing the pet before its timer breaks anyways.  Fights just don't usually last longer than one beguile duration. I'd rather be charming than damaging any day <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> <div></div><p>Message Edited by Mandelbrodt on <span class=date_text>05-11-2005</span> <span class=time_text>11:51 AM</span>

I'm with you Mandel.  There are several tricks like that you can do to reduce or even eliminate your aggro.  Arent they fun? Although...you sure you're charming Red^^?  Unless they screwed it up (Sony programmers go figure) I thought we could only do Single ^ mobs.  <div></div>

We can't do epic mobs.  I've been beguiling 42^^ and 43^^ Nightbloods in RV to fight against each other.  Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm quite sure they are ^^'s. <div></div>

Beguile cannot be used on any ^^ mobs. Many of those nightbloods you refer to are ^. Also note that when Beguile breaks, or is broken by you, the mob retains ALL of your group buffs. Any attempt to dispell the mob, also dispells your group. A hasted, agroed upset mob, with uber magic resist buffs can cause YOU, and your group a really, really bad day. It works if you have a very high level tank, with good taunts, and a healer who is on the ball. <div></div>

<P>Beguile has limited usefulness in a few situations...</P> <P>1) when group is small 3-4, lacking component, (ie. healer otw but want to pull a few mobs while waiting) , and have two ^ mob's ( or one ^^ and one ^ )   can beguile one to mitigate damage and add a little dps......</P> <P>actually that's about it! lol.  :smileytongue:  Mostly i use it because it's fun and dps is insignificant mostly anyways.</P> <P>In a related subject i have been finding coercer's niche .....in small groups that would other wise be unable to handle certain mobs...through stifle, stun, mezz and beguile we can allow inferior groups to be functional...was with 3 yahoos last night (translation : not particularly skilled players)  in CT, they couldn't believe we were handling mobs, and couldnt appreciate it was because they were stunned, stiffled most of the time (or we would've wiped numerous times).</P>

The DPS from charm is not insignificant.  Out of 3+ hours of logs it has accounted for 49% of my damage output.  Take into account that this is damage that would otherwise be coming IN to my group and it can make a huge difference.  <div></div>

Ootpek...what are you using to parse your charm DPS? Combatstats, and other parsers I've seen don't differentiate between charmed, and non-charmed mob dps. <div></div>

Like ogre said it's fun for soloing but in a group it's not as useful unless you got one mob to charm for hours on end every 36 sec (bleh).  When charm breaks in a full group you got a hasted buffed out mob with 50% more hps and insane mitigation which takes a little longer to kill...aka takes away any advantage it's given you offensively.  Dispel these buffs and well, you've dispelled your entire group's buffs and concentration. <div></div>

Proteus:  Actually I'm writing my own because I haven't been able to find one that can do it within the game.  Mine is for offline only though and I have to admit...it's a PAIN and I understand why people don't write regular parsers for this.  hehe.  Hmm...come to think of it...I should go find some source code of a in game parser and see if I can just modify instead of write from scratch.  I just used TCL as I know the language and had it installed already.  <div></div>
