Crowd control primarily. I chose Coercer over Illusionist because they appeared to have better single-target mez and better power regen. I played an EQ1 chanter for years, but it appears that most of what I found enjoyable has been stripped away from the class.

I chose enchanter because I like to CC, because if your good then everyone likes you. I became Coercer only because I am freeport lol. anyways CC,although not important to every encounter is still used depending on your grp make-up.

I also chose Coercer because of mana regen. sooner or later there is going to be an armmagedon between mana regen items and all enchanters, and we will battle for 7 days on top of the claymore hill in antonica as all of norath squinches at the destruction of developer egos and cancelled acounts . eventually i think we will lose though, as mana regen items will have far superior #'s.

so what the [expletive ninja'd by Faarbot] am i talking about anyways. im saying you cant really ask Coercer's for an opinion right now, as most the time it will be jaded. we are in a transition that Soe is in control of. although they have shown alot of great respone to customer feedback, so im not to worried. all in all i am having a blast in this game because i have a good guild, and i think thats all the matters in mmorpg heh.

-edit- chose Coercer without even knowing we had a charm spell lol.

Message Edited by mckayormacky on 03-21-2005 02:06 PM

Message Edited by mckayormacky on 03-21-2005 02:09 PM

To feel unique and special.

Beguile

It's the ONLY reason I picked this class over a warlock. I was led to believe that we would have decent CC and the ability for a risky, yet rewarding, high DPS option.

Josza

The Walking Dead

Lucan D'Lere

My big chars since creation, are Coercer and Troub. I chose them because out of all the classes chanters and bards seemed to require the most thought... not just button mashing.

The reason I made a coercer (enchanter) was because after playing a SK for 33 levels I realized that the only way to ensure that I will always have enchanter in a group - is to play one. Let's face it, with all the problems, issues, bug and etc. one thing is still true: life expectancy of a group as a hole with enchanter in a group is increased twicefold. I never played EQ and my fist major exposure to MMORPG was SWG, wich thouse of you who played that game know, is not a very group oriented game. This game is all about a group (at least for me) and outside of playing a healer class (which I refuse to do), enchenter is the next best thing (if not the first best thing). So, for me it's (1) CC (2) stuns/stifles (3) mana regen. Have not had a valuable exposure to charms, so can't comment on that since I have no point of reference.

I chose Enchanter for crowd control and Coercer for charm. I expect all enchanters to be able to do CC.

Anyone who says coercer for CC is being misleading since illusionists should have at least equal CC.

So why did you choose Coercer over Illusionist?

Every group i played with with my first character ran better with an enchanter, but i never understood why. I just saw the chanter flailing their arms and a lot of prety colors. So i made one just to see what the heck they were doing. Now that i have a lvl28 enchanter, and all my groups run smoother, I still wonder what the heck they are doing So i guess i was just curious about the class

Crowd control. I like the chess-player aspect of CC. Only chose coercer because my circle of friends decided we'd all play evil chars in this game.

To feel mechanically powerful without sacrificing the nature of the game. Doing so using Charm, Power Taps, and smaller forms of DPS that branch from the extra power gained throughout. Currently I play a Necromancer, Coercer has been sapped of the fun I once had.

I selected chanter primarily for CC. The peeps I was joining the game with wanted to go evil, so I ended up a Coercer. Didn't think that would be too bad since they got Charm (so charm is a secondary reason)

The forced action abilities. They rock too hardcore. That and being a mana fountain without having to sing. Although I think that if our forced action spells are going to be resisted by people of the same level and higher, we should be able to cast them on people not grouped with us. If nothing else they should raise the resistance to people who con orange or above.

DPS reduction. I make boss mobs whimper like a whipped dog.

Oh, and crowd control.

Mana regen too.

And less button-mashing (this one should be higher...#1 or #2)

Well, to be perfectly honest... I played a High Elf Paladin in eq1, and was sick of paying for KEI.

So mana regen i guess... and the hope of getting rich... oh well

I also wanted a challange. An enchanter is a tough class, arguably the toughest to play well.

Message Edited by Erowen on 06-08-2005 01:36 PM

I made an enchanter to have control over all situations that I come across. True supposedly all mages were going to have some kind of crowd control, but I knew it couldn't compare to that of an enchanter. Coercer was appealing to me because I thought charm was going to actually work and the power regen would be signifcant. I know this is not EQ live.... but if you went anywhere in EQ without a KEi you were slightly impaired. Now in EQ2 we have equipment that can offer the same ammount of power regen as our high end spells, making our ability to power regen subpar. :smileysad:

I picked a Coercer because of a story I heard while playing EQL, which inspired me to achieve the same thing.

Friends of mine were raiding with a huge group of people (forget where), but they got wiped ... needless to say getting back to their corpses was nigh but impossible and they were all level 50 - 55.

But fortunately they were able to call for some help.

In comes a 65 level Necromancer that simply took over the zone for the time it required them to get their corpses and get out of there.

After hearing this story, when ever I hear someone talking about [real] crowd control, I always see in my mind the following picture:

A robe clad person sits in a damp cave, surrounded by various creatures who are all standing still. As one of the creatures falls over with a sigh he stands up, briefly glanses over his fallen comrads before pointing a finger at a comatose zombie, which immediatly starts to sigh ... just as if something was being sucked right out of it.

He knows he has gotten everything under control, it's just a matter of maintaining his concentration ...

So, for me ...

... the awe factor of being able to do something like that was the only reason I picked an enchanter as my main.

This isn't possible with out crowd control, be it stun or mez ... so I guess I fall into that category :smileyhappy:.

I've always played melee and have always been at the wrong end of the nerf bat and ignore stick. I chose coercer this time around because I wanted to play a class that required more than pressing 2 or 3 buttons, that could solo effectively and was wanted/needed in groups/raids. Right up to level 30 I couldn't have been happier with the class. Loved it. Then Big Patch of Doom #3 came along and all that ended rather abruptly.

I didn't choose the class to charm, breeze, haste or anything specific. I wanted a fun class and that's exactly what it was until SOE started in with the Nerf First, Ask Questions / Do Research LaterTM approach.

My subscription is almost dead. Please keep up the fight as long as you can stand it. Perhaps they'll finally pull their heads out and see what's happening on our side of the fence.

In EQ1, I was a ranger first, and then a warrior for a very long time. I used to quad box with my tank, cleric, druid, and chanter. I'd originally just made the chanter for mana regen and haste for my tank. But as I got familiar with the class, I began to play that toon when not raiding with the guild instead of just grinding xp or aa. I found I enjoyed the class, and I was damned good at it. I never fully made the transition to main in EQ1, but when EQ2 rolled around, I tried a ranger again. Found they still sucked, and I didn't really want to play a fulltime melee character again anyway. I made a Coercer #1: because I have evil tendancies. It was either Coercer or illusionist, and serving the happy happy goody goodies in Qeynos didn't appeal to me. I'm a dark elf, and I'm gonna act like one! #2 I like the fact that when I'm with a group, I'm almost always busy. Whether it's mez, refreshing dots on the mob, refreshing buffs, or finding time to actually toss a nuke, I'm never bored. Most groups in this game seem to default to a brute force method and play a game of attrition. I bring finesse to the table. When the kitty poo hits the fan and no one wants to evac (god, scouts with an itchy evac button irritate me to no end), I'm the one that bails folks out. When we're going up against a tough named and the healer runs short of mana (usually from having to heal my sorry behind), I'm the one that keeps the mob there staring peacefully into someones eyes while the healer takes a smoke break to regen mana. In short, I have a role, I have a purpose, and I'm a consummate professional, so I believe in doing the best job I can no matter what I'm doing, even if it's just playing a game. I'll admit, that I have seem some of the problems that y'all have mentioned, I just hit 30 last night though, and I imagine the high end game changes just a bit. For all intents and purposes though, this game is still in it's infancy. Enchanters were broke as all get out when EQ1 hit the shelves. They fixed 'em. They'll fix us. And if they don't, well, I can always fall back on my old career as a tank

To be honest I liked being a class that could contribute to a group. I chose the Coercer class before beta came out because back then SOE had everyone convinced that "all subclasses will fufill thier archetype and class roles equally." Well, they lied. I played one in beta but only got to level 20ish, before they're [Removed for Content]. At gold I played one to level 50 and found out that we don't gain any dps past level 30 =/ So, in short, I played it because I thought it would get a little more crowd control and a little less damage than other mages, and found out we have 0 damage and all crowd control. I suppose my first mistake was trusting SOE =/

After playing EQ1 and seeing how many groups depended on an enchanter so much, I decided to play one. Obviously I knew Eq2 would be different, but I knew crack (power regen) would still be in and usefull. Then after I decided to play an Enchanter I looked at the Illusionist and the Coercer. I saw that the Illusionist got no Group haste spells and no group crack (Minds Eye) so I decided to take the Coercer. I felt the class would be more suited to what I wanted to play. I'm currently 45 and rather dissapointed about Mind's Eye being nerfed, since that was a major factor in why I chose this class.
