<DIV>Is it just me, or do enchanters (coercers specifically) take no damage at all?  I mean I know it's a given that we aren't going to be able to take hits.  But I die REALLY quick.  I've compared my stats to those of similar level coercers/enchanters, so I'm wondering if maybe I'm doing something wrong?  This is vs mostly yellow ++ and sometimes orange ++ mobs, I usually have around 800hps with my buffs, and around 475ish ac.  These mobs hit me for anywhere from 150-450, sometimes into the 500's.  I usually die in about 3 hits if for whatever reason I pull aggro.  And unless the healer notices that I have pulled aggro and a mob is heading towards me and casts a heal before the mob actually gets to me, I'm pretty much dead.  If the healer doesn't notice, by the time he/she sees my health start to go down and casts a heal, it's going to take too long to land and I'm dead.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Now yes, I know, simple solution is not to pull aggro.  Which is ok, as long as we don't get adds.  I never pull the mob off the tank once engaged.  However when an add comes along, for some reason I'm usually the first person it comes to.  Even if I'm in behind everyone else, and it comes from the front, it'll come right through everyone to me probably 75% of the time.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>So I guess it comes down to two questions.  1) Am I dying abnormally fast?  2) Anyone have any idea why adds tend to come directly to me?</DIV>

<DIV>I always have my trigger finger on stun. F8 and then my hotkey is a lifesaver. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Having a good tank who knows how to manage aggro is great. Seeing those flames engulf the heads of the bad mobs is a nice sight for me. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>HOWEVER....when all else fails and I'm getting whacked on like a red headed step gnome....I usually fall in about 5 hits. I'm wearing all 6 armor quest items + pristine jewlery in all slots. AC is usually around the 540 mark unbuffed. Keep in mind we have crappy Defense, crappy Parry, and can't hold a candle to even Scouts in medium armor. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>So no, you dying quick isn't odd. Be happy your priest lived and rezzed you <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV>

<DIV>Yes, we die fast...</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Does that mean we can't defend ourselves in most situations? No.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I have all quest armor/pristine level 30 piece armor (I have a tailor), and mostly pristine jewelery.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The trick is to have a fast hand on Stupefy (at 22).  I can take a couple of combat rounds (usually about 3), but that's it.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Stupefy/mez combo fast if you take a hit... then back off and remez when timer is up.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I only died once in one combat round, two single up oranges in FG spawned on us, they both agroed me, and dropped me in the first round. lol.  Only time I couldn't protect myself to date.</DIV>

<DIV>As an Enchanter (going Coercer), I died  alot solo but, more in groups to begin with. One major problem I had was learning to let my DOTs do their work. Another prob, I had alot of was spawns on top of me when my health and mana were low. Now I die less, usually now when trying to do and learn something new. </DIV>

<DIV>I found I can tank very good vs. solo conned mob (orange-red) and its been actually very usefull for skill training lol</DIV> <DIV>Key for duralubility - have maxed deffence, parry and armor that cons at very least green/blue better yellow/orange</DIV>

Don't forget Blink - a very useful spell.

<DIV>Check your kill-death ratio on eq2players.com, if you are below 125 you'r definitely doing something wrong, or raiding alot.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>When a group spawns on me and aggros i can usually get a blink off to drop them on someone else, and then mez.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>When one aggros, you should have stupefy up.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>If all else fails, there is the long casting stuns, or a stifle, either helps.</DIV>

<DIV>Orki your kill to death ration really start to picking up in numbers once you pass lvl 25 not before that....</DIV> <DIV>As a coercer I did not solo much mostly grouped - my death to kill was just tiny above 50, at lvl 30 its somethat over 60</DIV>

<DIV>Casters will inherently die fast, in my mid 20s I was getting extremely frustrated - since mobs started attacks with a special attack I'd die in about (forget rounds) 3 seconds.  Coercers have an obviously higher agro rate than many other casters but I found two things to be true -</DIV> <DIV>1) get a *<EM>good* </EM>tank, one that knows how to use their intervene line of spells, this will easily save you and many a group that has started to rely on your skills</DIV> <DIV>2) get that defense up!!!! I have sinced leveled and gotten hp/armor upgrades but the most significant change was taking the time to fight some greens and get that skill up - I've had the 32^^ golems in varsoons on me for at least 3 special attacks and everything inbetween (at least a minute, never timed) and been fine, healer's mana doing fine.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>It's just part of our class, it's just part of the game, sometimes it goes good sometimes not, but as your tanks and healers get better skills, and you get more armor/skill/hp you should find things to be a little less harsh.... usually.... *cackles*</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>P.S.  use that blink spell, it has saved me numerous times. <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>------------------</DIV> <DIV>Demogorgon</DIV> <DIV>28 Coercer</DIV> <DIV>Lucan D`Lere</DIV><p>Message Edited by volvox on <span class=date_text>12-14-2004</span> <span class=time_text>09:00 AM</span>

Blink always tosses me into the wall and I fall through the world so it scares me to use it now because in some cases if I zone they'll evac or wipe.I've tried to go the AC route and gotten as high as 1700 defense in group but it still doesn't keep us from dying in a few hits =p. Low hp low ac there's not much we can do about it.

<DIV>By level 20 you have two spells with a 1 second cast time, Stupefy and Binding Light, if either one of those stick you should be able to avoid getting killed most of the time. If you use Stupefy just immediately mez the mob, if you use Binding Light step out of attack range and mez the mob just as the root is about to break.</DIV>

<DIV>The problem is that stuns and mezzes do not stack. I use stupefy then click mez it shows on my upkeep bar the the mob is mezzed but it isn't so, it still is whacking away, then i have to cancel that mez, wait for mez to refresh and cast it again. Annoying.</DIV>

<DIV>At lvl 20 i think my kills-death ratio was in the area 150:1, grouping all the way, learning the game.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>At 25 it had climbed to 170:1 (remember checking then)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>At 30 it's probably in the 180-190:1 area. (cant see the number right now)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I dont solo, and i'm bad at it. </DIV> <DIV>About half my deaths comes from exploring new areas and accidents while travelling or some sutch, if you'r carefull you will allmost never die in groups.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Dont just nuke everything in sight, and buff when the tank is pulling..  take your time, dont rush casting your spells.</DIV> <DIV>That half a second to look around behind you, and make sure someone else is behind you is time well spent.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><FONT size=4>Positioning, and dont get aggro in the first place, those are the main parts.</FONT></DIV> <DIV>If i had just stopped casting, and eaten it when mobs hit me, i would still be safely above 100:1 in kills/deaths ratio.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Remember, the game is slow phased.. dont rush it..  due to the cast and recast times on spells, you can afford that extra second.</DIV>

<DIV>Orki at my 20s my death to kill was around 30:1 .... to many idiots who cause group wipe out</DIV> <DIV>by lvl 25 its climb uo to 47-50:1</DIV> <DIV>by lvl 30 its around 70:1</DIV> <DIV>Ratio bad for only reason I picked a lot deaths early in lvls. At 30s I can have more often then not session then I dont have deaths within grouping...</DIV> <DIV>On countary during solo I have ratio over 500:1 (in other words I have died only once during solo)</DIV>

<DIV>Nerjin at 30s you will mostly orange/red (solo) kind of mobs - risk of death not high, killing rate a lot faster then killing green ++ or blue +. I can kill orange conned goblin in EL just under 30s with about 20% power to burn - killing green conned ++ goliaph in TS will take a lot longer and will net just tiny better exp if any better</DIV>

<DIV>I agree. Its very hard to die on soloing. I don't think I ever died once while soloing. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Tanatus is right, you get better exp over time if you kill orange-yellow mobs. The ^ and ^^ mobs have tons of hp, take way longer to kill, and hit hard. </DIV>
