My situation is somewhat unique, 3 RL friends wanting to play together but avoid the traditional War/Priest/Scout stereotype. Two of us have already decided our sub-class (Necro, Coercer). The last is trying to pick his Priest path. Having read many posts and done some searching it seems you guys like the front load dmg prevention of the Defiler? Does that make Defiler the class you most look for to do the healing in your group situations? Or do Inquisitors take the bill because of their king of the hill pure healing capabilities? Seems like the Druid guys with Regenerative healing would be the worst. Correct me if I'm wrong. Love to hear some input.--Darkoan

<DIV>Dont do it. Make your friend dump the necro and play a Tank, you HAVE TO have a tank in this game, there is no way around it. If you dont have one you are going to be standing around begging strangers to tank for you. Also dont let your tank be a bruiser or a monk, they are not tanks. They cant take a hit and the damage avoidance is extreamly streakey. They get hit 3 or 4 times in a row and they fall right over, very very sad. </DIV>

<DIV><FONT size=4><FONT size=2>It depends on your situation to if a tank is needed. If you outside or in the entro to dungeons, you won't need a tank and a necro, coercer, healer combo would work fine. You just have to know how to which spells and skills comploment each other's classes. As far as the healer, I would recommend defiler for you situation. Do to the fact that niether one of you can take damage and the warding would be extremely helpful in this situation and a defiler should be able to throw small heals here and there when needed. Plus you get the added debuff bonus.</FONT></DIV></FONT>

I was under the assumption that a Defiler would be a sufficient tank if we really needed one, why cant a pure caster group work with a coercer for CC? Seems a Necro w/pet should be able to easily handle one on one fights, which the Coercer should be able to guarantee.. especially with a Defiler there to ward the Coercer and emergency heal to keep him alive..? I can understand the need for a melee if we go dungeon crawling but [Removed for Content], meat shields are a dime a dozen, or haven't you noticed??<p>Message Edited by Darkoan on <span class=date_text>12-10-2004</span> <span class=time_text>09:39 AM</span>

<DIV>Necro pet wont withstand incoming damage from yellow ++ and above monsters. And fighting anything below yellow ++ in group well kinda ..... boring?</DIV><p>Message Edited by Tanatus on <span class=date_text>12-10-2004</span> <span class=time_text>12:50 PM</span>

<DIV>The necro is the most worthless class in the game.  Don't let you or your friend become one.  </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Number 1 reason why is they don't have any use.  I'd take a scout for DPS over a necro any day.  They don't have any usefull buffs either.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Number 2, there are way too many necros out there already.  Look forward to having to compete with 2-3 LFG necros in every zone.  Not only that but expect to pay 1G for each pet Adept you want to buy.</DIV>

<DIV>thats a good little party full of dps, though you said you were in Varsoon. you were fighting lvl 30-33 golums more than likely, with the occasional ^^ mob thrown in.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Now, take that same group to Zek and see how far you get in the mines. Of course, you make due with what you have at hand. Maybe a tank wasn't available at the time. (play on Oggok?)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>To say you *need* a tank may be a stretch, but to say you dont is probably more folly. Take that same goup you have, swap out one of the Assassins for a guardian and you'll be fighting lvl 35 group x2 ^^ encounters in Zek. peronally I'd ditch Varsoon and start working on Zek or EL access. Way better xp/loot/fun zones than varsoon.</DIV>

<DIV>If you were lvl 25 in zek and runnyeye then you were either a healer (thus you were a xp leech) or you were some form of dps (thus you were a xp leech)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Even at lvl 29 you would be useless. Especially if you are fighting lvl 40 mobs like you say you are. Again, only way someone lvl 29 fighitng lvl 40 mobs can be of ANY use is if you are healer. At lvl 29 providing dps or CC then you are maybe in the mines, just killing grunts and cat operators. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Since this is a Coercer forum I'll asssume you are a Coercer that is lvl 29 now. And you sy you are doing damage and mezing lvl 40 mobs? Hahaha, NO FRICKEN WAY. Your mez will land on 35 mob occasionally and RARELY on lvl 36 and 36. lvl 38+ fuhgetaboudit.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>But yah, lvl 30's in varsoon.. probably finishing up quests....... hopefully to get acess to Zek.</DIV>

<DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>My wife plays a coercer and I a necro we are both level 25, firstly I love my necro and would never pick another character. I have to say the person who was necro bashing obviously never played one. </FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>We never have problems getting or forming a group. Sometimes  when we don't feel like a group the two of us will just tag team mobs in nek. We kill groups of up arrow greens and blues all the time.</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>As for pet not being able to tank, I have adept 3 level 25 pet and it does a awesome job . We have a shaman friend who joins us some times and with her healing the pet we kill yellows easy. I have been in many a group where the tank got killed and healer kept pet going to save the day. </FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Obviously as with the case of any caster class their are mobs that will require a tank but with the 3 of you together you have the foundation to make an awesome group at that point  finding a tank to join you will be easy.</FONT></DIV></DIV>

<DIV>This is a follow-up to my original post.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I'm level 34 now and my group routinely is :</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Defiler 34 </DIV> <DIV>Coercer 34 </DIV> <DIV>Dirge 34 </DIV> <DIV>Assassin 33 </DIV> <DIV>Brigand 29</DIV> <DIV>"x tank here"</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>We've been in Runnyeye for the last week.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>In my humble opinion, my favorite tank is Bruiser due to DPS and dodging (best with Defiler  - i'll let you figure out why!).</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>In a crunch, we still don't NEED a tank.  Have you ever seen a mob slowed by 3 different classes at once?  Pretty funny to watch a 37^^ swing 3 times before dying.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>This group specializes in taking down double up mobs.  What's our weakness? Without a tank, we get owned by groups 5+ in number due to the inability to quickly "immobilize" the adds.  I usually wind up mezzing, stunning adds then nuking main target to speed up kill, mez, stun, repeat until dead.  Problem is, sometimes the Defiler generates too much aggro and starts getting beat on before I can effectively get stuff under control.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>We wind up as a group doing quite a bit of evaccing to save our butts because of this.  A downside but with 3 scouts, why risk it?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The Defiler is still my favorite priest class.  We haven't played with a second healer in 15 levels and probably never will.  The dirges mitigation is worse than a tank, but his parry skill coupled with ward makes him an effective stand-in (its the aoe taunt we lack).</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>In a nutshell.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Play the game you wanna play, have fun doing it.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>My point is, there's more than one way to play this game and I think people get latched onto the idea that they HAVE to have this or they HAVE to have that.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Do what works! Sometimes the experimentation pays off.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

OK, I was gonna let this drop, but would like to know what people think is the best healer for a Coercer, or pair of Coercers in my case. (Was doing a search on this subject, got into the topic and responded by mistake, hehe). So I posted a question like this on the Gameplay Forum.  I run three Coercers, but figure I will drop one for a healer.  No I dont want to drop two and add some other class, just find a healer two help out with survivability when a pet turns on me.Heres some thoughts:Warden - Another single root, which is nice when taking on groups of mobs.  An AE root too. Evac.  Fast heals.  Two nukes, to help out with the three Coercer nukes to drop stuff fast.Fury - Int buff.  DOTing and AEing is not something I would want to do with the Coercers, so probably not this guy.Inquisitor - Mental debuffing DOT.  Sounds nice since I mental nuke primarily once pets are in.  PBAE stun might help with recharming.  Another Reactive DD, does anyone know if it stacks with Coercers, or if Coercers can stack theirs like DOTs?Defiler - Wards sound to me like the best form of healing.  I have low mitigation.  So this helps out with time wise as I manage multiple characters.  He uses a spear, which looks like a staff, so my characters would look more similar. So Warden has root/evac, Inquisitor has mental debuff/reactives/stun/fear, Defiler has wards.Comments and suggestions appreciated.Thanks,Mal<div></div>
