View Full Version : Are you appreciated?
Do you ever get shown appreciation as a CC'er when in indie groups? I rarely do. The healers on the other hand do, and it's usually from the healers, I get shown some.A common example: you are attacking a group of 4 lvl 25s in the forest. You got the three under control with fascinate and mesmerize, you even have time to breeze and deal damage. Then another group of 4 lvl 25s spawn and aggro you. 3 are on your healer straight away. You switch to pure crowd control now, and lock down the three on the healer. Two more lvl 26s aggros from a train jump in, and you start going through a constant mez and fascinate routine. The healer starts taking a beating as you can't keep them all under control. Yet we all pull through - although everyone is pretty much out of power and health. Everyone then starts complimenting the healer on how good a job he did on keeping the group alive. It doesn't bothers me, as I consider us the puppet masters that work behind the scene. It just a funny observation, I have been making a lot. I can't help laughing a bit, when everyone is complimenting the healer at the end though lol. I was wondering if anyone has had similar experiences, or is it just me? <img src="/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /><p>Message Edited by kirky on <span class=date_text>11-30-2004</span> <span class=time_text>12:25 PM</span>

<DIV>Can't say I've had that problem. People have been very interested in what I'm up to and very grateful for my crowd control. Maybe its because I have a macro explaining whats been mezzed ...I don't keep spamming it, just use it at the start to let everyone know not to attack when they see a rainbow <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV> <DIV>I think I've been very lucky with groups though, met some great people.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Just dinged Coercer tonight and loving it! <img src="/smilies/283a16da79f3aa23fe1025c96295f04f.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV>

<DIV>Well in my case ppl still smarter then monkey no matter what other researcher may say... So once folks realize that if they have 1 healer and drop down like flyes on 2 orange ++ or red ++ pulls and get barely scratched if they have coercer present they can combine 2+2 to figue that coercer doing <EM>something </EM></DIV>

That people aren't completely sure about what the coercer does. I bet most of the newbie players think we are regular DPS, which we far from are.

<DIV>You think people should thank you every time you do your job as a coercer? What about the tank that sits there and gets hit? What about the rogue and wizard that dish out the monster DPs? I never hear them get any appreciation, so why should we? </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Edit: Just to be clear, I'm not trying to be a jerk. I'm just saying everyone has a funtion in a group that they need to do for the group to be successful. I don't think any one class should be considered special, including us.</DIV><p>Message Edited by sholmes983 on <span class=date_text>11-30-2004</span> <span class=time_text>11:40 AM</span>

I never see anyone else than the healer really get praised (in indie groups that is. It's something else with friends). It doesn't bother me at all though. The rest of the group not mentioning your work is, I guess, a short of approval of your work in itself. Since your job is to make every encounter run as smooth as possible without anyone noticing anything.<p>Message Edited by kirky on <span class=date_text>12-01-2004</span> <span class=time_text>02:04 AM</span>

<DIV>Nah you are wrong, may be your group just a bit low lvl that's all... At mid 20s ppl usually say in the end of very hard fight - good job everyone!</DIV>

<DIV>Lol, one star bandit around....I got one starred for feeling appreciated <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I'm no glory hog, I make sure I let other classes know how much I appreciate them to;</DIV> <DIV>"Wow you Scorecers hit hard!"..."Many thanks for the heals"...etc etc</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>We'll be understood in time, its just the price we pay for being quite a rare class.</DIV>
<DIV>When people really notice what I do is when the healer is out of mana, we're all hurting, and there's still 2-3 mobs left. I start spamming group chat to get everyone to stop fighting, hold the mobs down, let breeze do it's thing, recast it if needed, consume ego down to a bub of hitpoints or less if I have to, by the time we pick up again everyone's ready to go. I've been called a pause button before.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>"I consider us the puppet masters that work behind the scene."</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Some of the worst groups I've been in (eq1 or 2) was where the puppets (group members) didnt realize that. Bad pull, wasting two points of mana means wipe and 2 hour corpse recovery. I take charge start telling people who havent been doing their job how to do it, call out targets for the tank, and he starts arguing with me telling me he knows how to do his job and doesnt need me screaming at him. At least he had the brains to do what i said and we lived (barely). He then proceeded to disband from the group claiming if he had done it his way it would be an easier fight. Because a warrior knows oh so well to take the toughest mob first and let the chanter run out of mana ccing low hp mobs so they can drive the healer out of mana. He also mentioned something about talking to his wife if he wanted to get yelled at, must be my charming personality on bad days.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

<DIV>Lol i get tons of appreciation once someone groups with me for awhile.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Usually after adds spawn or aggros on top of us and i mez them all, and instead of a death situation it turns into a more xp situation. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>And this is just with 1 mez spell, i cant wait until i get Coercer(one more level!) and can start AE mezzing add groups.</DIV>
Ah yes, well I try to do a good job and I do get commended for it in pickup groups. I also get alot of people seeking me out for their groups CCer out of the blue, they've told me that I am one of the few reliable enchanters/coercers on the server. So that's pretty cool, I'm just glad I can find groups easily lol.
<DIV>I had a swashbuckler tell the group that enchanters were useless last night.</DIV> <DIV>I was breezing everybody (except him) the entire time, and hasting / mezzing. And his power bar wasn't moving at all.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I told him off for not using special attacks, while he insisted he was. I never saw him use any. We kicked him after an evac and invited another swashbuckler, this one for some reason used power even though I had him breezed!</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I might also add that I have RSI on my left hand from hitting breeze all the time, and I'm getting aggravated at the under-appreciation for enchanters (I'm a 32 coercer).</DIV>

As a 27 coercer i find most of my group invites come from the healers in the group now, and they tend to become very vehemant with the group in regards as to getting a coercer or a second healer <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> Once you get a good name for yourself in your timezone, you will get groups very easily, i get 3-5 tells within 5 mins of logging on usually <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />
<P>I get mad props all the time. Iono... I just [Removed for Content] it like that I guess :smileywink:</P> <P>But I don't play to impress people I'll never meet, or to get gratification through it. I play a coercer cuz I like the class. Even though a few spells are broke and worthless - I still have fun. I just don't look at at EQ as a big social event, it's a video game. I wouldn't play any class just to gain praise... I think one would just be setting themself up for dissapointment. Just have fun playing a class you enjoy. Again, just a video game. </P> <P>It never takes me long to get a group. Sometimes I don't even get a chance to put my LFG flag up. CC/crack/haste will always be wanted in groups.</P>

<DIV>One group member comment: "I forgot how much enchanters rule"</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I'm not a Coercer yet but I'm 1 level away, here studying from my elders. The appreciation is felt in about 50% of the pickup groups I'd say I've been in. I tend to play at fairly random times, while taking a few days off here and there so I haven't really had consistent groups. However, appreciation isn't what I do it for. I do it because it is heart-pounding fun. I'm simply not alive unless there are some adds to contend with. It's all about the thrill of subtle power! </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><end maniacal laughter> <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV>

<DIV>Somedays, I feel loved, somedays I dont.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>But when I am on teamspeak, and I hear others in there saying, "god this would be so much easier with ratboy here" then i know, i am loved <img src="/smilies/283a16da79f3aa23fe1025c96295f04f.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV>
<DIV>One day I grouped up with a guy in Nektulos forest. First thing he asked me, was where is your pet? :smileyvery-happy: I gave him a run down of the class, but anyways.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>On topic, As long as I'm not getting yelled at for not doing my job correctly I feel appreciated (and I rarely get yelled it). Most people I've ran into in-game know what our class is all about. </DIV>

<DIV>Most pickup groups I join at level 25 know the value of a Coercer and CC. I know of chanters back in EQ1 that if they felt under appreciated, they would let someone die to make their point. I am glad that there is shared death in EQ2 to discourage such practices. Since I play mostly with guildies and we all use Teamspeak, I know they value me. I can not imagine going back to playing without Teamspeak.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I do not play my character to get praise form others.
