To make a long story short, I trio my swash with a warden and bruiser and its loads of fun. Recently the warden/bruiser decided to make some "cooldown" characters on another server and finally succomb to the fae bug. My question for you seasoned Illusionists involves a new trio. The warden rolled a mystic, the bruiser began as a monk but ended with Illusionist, and I myself rolled a ranger at first. I am very worried about what awaits us down the road, lacking a real tank and feeling I will greatly pull aggro off personae. As you all know your class far better than myself, would you mind verifying that a Illu could indeed produce enough dps for a relatively smooth trio assuming I re-rolled as a Shadowknight? In short; would a SK, Illu, Mystic trio work? Any input including other potential classes would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the longwinded point and general unorganized thoughts, running on 2 hours of sleep.

Well illusionist trio.. hmm. illusionists are the perfect group class. They have sufficent power regen to keep a tank going have valuable buffs for both tanks and perhaps a healer not to mention have a pet that although arguable might not be as useful as a good coercer pet still does a good job.

Firstly to answer your first question about the mystic ranger illusionist trio i think that later on you'll encounter problems. Rangers will pull aggro off your pet as they progress especially if buffed for haste (my main is a 70 raid ranger), and due to the nature of rangers they don't tank as well as a swashy brigand. However if you can stifle root mezz etc then they can be fantastic along side an illisionist you just have to consider if they pull aggro that whilst i don't doubt against heroic and normal mobs the mystic can't keep the ranger alive, it doesn't make much sense to have a scout class that is predominatedly ranged using weak melee attacks.

As my 2nd character is a Illusionist i'll tell you my best groups tend to be Monk/Bruiser ( you can haste them and they dish good dps and heal) Warden (good heals and good damage as well but a fury can work in this sistuation as well)

Necro's are good as well there tank pet is strong they can fd and rez if needs be don't rely on power from you and can heal to a certain degree.

However if you are going to go the scout healer mezzer root consider a warden/defiler illusionist and then i'd say brig or swashy.

In all honesty though i think you'll find the illusionist is probably the one character in the game that is great in any group. The ability to mezz single and mutliple targets dish good dps and power regen make you an ideal candidate in any trio.

Perhaps your question would be better asked..Whats the most efficent Trio for an illusionist. Personally i'd say Bruiser ( they tank and dps well) Warden (again heal and dps well) and mezzer. However this isn't much help as they have re-rolled to mystic and illusionist so if i we're you i'd consider Brigand. A very versatile class who are always wanted in raid guilds if later on you decide you want to raid and also can tank and dps well.

Having answered the above i then realised i didn't actually answer the sk question.. haha! In answer to that go for it.. Sk's are now a very strong class lifetap is fantastic and the illusionist will struggle to pull aggro from you as theoritically you have the strongest Taunt in the game.

Death March – This is by far the best taunt in game. It has been calculated that a SK generates 2-3k threat per person and pet in his or her group. So you are looking at 10-15k instant threat. Also this buff can be used as a taunt when mobs are being body pulled.
- Taunt AAs – AAs increase, at full amount, the resistability of AE and single taunt by 30%. So AE taunt will be at 74% and Single will be at 71%.
- Shield Bash –
- Rescue – Can increase threat positions by 3 giving a total of 6 positions increase (jury out on this one)
- Death March Recast Timer – you are able to reduce the recast of Death March by 25secs.
- Group Hate Transfer – 3% of group members hate is transferred to sk.
- Hate gain – KoS AA can increase hate gain by 10%
- Timers – KoS AA has reduced casting and reuse timers by 10%. Rescue can be as low as 9min 6 sec recast
- Despoil – 1680 miti debuff 336 miti buff to caster. This debuff adds 336 mitigation onto sk from every mob it lands on for 1min 12 secs. So 6 mobs = 2016 miti buff. When a mob dies the sk can loose 336 miti from the buff.

- Siphon Armour – Think of PoA in reverse. Atm you can cast it on any group member and get 375 Miti boost. Bugged EoF AA, not sure if it was fixed.

Four Snap agro tools
- Rescue
- Pestilent Touch
- Death March
- FD

So as you can see sk's can be handy and you'll hold aggro. With an illusionist in your group and a healer and you as an sk i think you'll be very successful.

Best of luck and i'm sure another brainer person than me will disagree and then give you a better answer.. :smileyvery-happy:

Mono..

Message Edited by mononoko on 02-02-2007 11:51 AM

For your tank, consider a Bruiser or SK.

Would it work? Yes. And very well.

Would another class fit better in there besides an illusionist? Probably one of the bards, or a necro.

you need to remember, that sk/mysti/illu wouldnt be the most powerfull dps-group.

for sure, you´ll need a plate tank to get on the harder stuff in t7 like hof. did yesterday the first few mobs with a tanking ranger but as we met Tzamutz, the ranger died before he could even breathe. the a monk showed up and he also get some decent hits, but the healer was a templer too, so the reactives didnt proc that often, so monk/templer doesnt seem to be the best combo.

so you are in need for a plate tank. therefore the sk or maybe even the zerker are very good choice. zerker burns mana faster than the sk i think, but maybe survives longer. i´ve seen zerkers and sk tanking the biggies in raidcontent, so its maybe all up to gear and the one who presses the buttons.

i´ll definately would stick to the mysti for healer. love it to see the tank in green hp all the fight. in later levels you´ll also be able to cast timecompression on the mysti, so his wards will regen faster too.

overall i think its a good combo you´ve chosen.

I have been two boxxing on my illus with a zerker who is two boxxing. I have illus main and warden healer. He has zerker main and templar healer. We can take the eof and kos instances save for the last named in hof. Long fights but have lots of mana(we have never run out, savante is really cool and with 5 aa lasts for 55 seconds). I put double attack and haste on the zerker and he dishes out 700-2000 dps most every fight. This is a four man not a three but just trying to show what a tank an enchanter and a couple healers can do.

There are not a lot of chanters on my server so most groups dont play well with them. On previous EQs chanters were a much more important and completely necessary class.
