So often when we talk about illusionist DPS I see people say, go for perpetuality and see the amazing speed with which we can cast, and the amazing DPS we therefore can do. True we can cast at an amazing speed with perpetuality - and run out of things to cast even faster ;p

My problem is not the casting speed, it's the recast duration. With chronosiphoning (rank and chronology (rank 5) I cast 39% faster than "base value", and with only that I already run out of things to cast before recast timers are up again. And by that I mean that I run out of nukes, dots, buffs, debuffs, powerdrains, and anything else that might do damage or trigger a damage proc. Into this mix I freely toss stuns, daze, and stifles when dealing with trash mobs on raids, but tend to keep these for an emergency on named. Even when using these, I still find that I'm looking at my spellbar for seconds on end, and have nothing left to cast.

So, I simply fail to understand how perpetuality can help me do more DPS.

Is there something here I have missed? Something I have misunderstood?

Do the following:

- get cheldrak's ring for 5% reuse timer reduction

- get all the proc gear u can (ring of supremacy, breath of the destroyer, bracelet of thule, etc)

- get at least the shimmering beam, brainburst, prismatic chaos, and synergism AAs from the Illusionist tree

- cast shimmering beam between all spells

- recast brainburst only after it terminates

- give priority to prismatic chaos and solar shower when they are up, make sure u cast them even if u have to skip a shim beam somewhere in the cycle

i promise u wont be able to keep up with recast timers, and ull do MAX dps.

then u can put a wizard and troubador in your group and get them to cast frigid gift and precision of the maestro whenever they are up, cuz with that spell haste ull get crazy amounts of procs from those.

but of course, if u cant get the proc gear stick with max crits.

Now for some more realistic gear suggestions:1. Mystical Orb of the Invoker - Collection quest.2. Grizfazzles Walking Stick - Heroic quest in Bonemire.3. Bone-Clasped Girdle - Heritage quest. Requires crafting, but with the commission system there is no need for you to actually do it yourself.4. X'haviz Gown of Glory - drops off boss mob in Nest of the Great Egg. Might take a few runs for it to drop.5. Cloak of the Burning Prince - Diety quested, Solusek Ro.None of that requires any raiding to aquire.Don't forget about Adornments! You can add quite a bit of INT through Adornments as well as +damage to specific damage types. There are Legendary Adornments to add +45 to all Mental based spells. There are Fabled Adornments that add +25 to an entire damage type . . . Arcane for instance which adds +25 to Magic, Mental and Divine. There are Adornments which add +25 to all spell damage types. When you start using cast haste like this, it's all about patterns imo. You simply have to learn a pattern of spells that works for you. It takes time, and the best mobs for working on this are raid mobs. They last long enough for the patterns to extend beyond 10 spells or so.

Thanks for the replies. I actually have most of the proc items listed by DaMutation (and a few that are not), but my question wasn't really about DPS or proc gear, it was a about the usefulness of perpetuality. I started out with perpetuality, but respecced months ago, the main reason being that all it did was extend the period when I had nothing left to cast. Since then, I still regularly run out of things to cast, and I just hate sitting there, doing nothing but wwaiting for my spells to refresh. Thus my question.

I don't know if this has changed with the new AAs, I still only have 83, but I'm gonna give it a try (I still have some cheap respecs left), but my feeling is that the change isn't great. I may be wrong.

And I'm not talking groups or solo play here, I know that perpetuality can add a huge amount of DPS to short fights, I'm talking about raiding and boss mobs that take 5 mins or more to kill - when I cast and cast and cast and cast again, and then for a bit have nothing left to cast, rinse and repeat :smileywink:

So here is what I do. I seriously never run out of spells to cast ever.

I run this feel free to mix up, this is what I do most of the time though on a single target mob (the *X = Perpetuity state) and I am using the relic ablosh hope):

Shimmering Beam *1

Chronosiponing *2

Prismatic Chaos *3

Abolish Hope *4

Brain Burst *5

Shimmering Beam *5 and you will stay this way.

Ultra Violent Storm

Savante

Solar Shower

Shimmering Beam

Devastating Gazes

Prismatic Chaos

Ultra Violent Storm

Shimmering Beam

Reapply Abolish Hope

Reapply Brain Burst

Extract Essence

Tribulation

Shimmering Beam

Ultra Violent Storm

Prismatic Chaos

Tumor

Solar Shower

Shimmering Beam

Devastating Gazes

Reapply Abolish Hope

Reapply Brain Burst

Ultra Violent Storm

Reapply Tribulation

Savante

Shimmering Beam

Chronosiponing

Extract Essence

Prismatic Chaos

Reapply Abolish Hope

Reapply Brain burst

Devastating Gazes

Shimmering Beam

Ultra Violent Storm

Tumor

Reapply Tribulation

Solar Shower

… keep it going like this.

While that tactic may not be the exact highest DPS of them all, it is a very good mix of keeping mana up on your and your group.

Remember a few things:

If you are in a group of five or more Momentary sentiment is going to put you at *5 right away.

You are going to use a huge amount of mana whith perpetualty with the above meathod, so use savante, devistating gazes, extract essences, hearts, shards, mana flow in balance.

Rule 2 should be modified and so should the spell chain list if you are using the INT line with Volatile Magic. For this it is best to not use the power regen spells until you are at about 40% mana. At that point drop off a mana flow and then continue to burn until 20% then start working on the savante and devistating gazes. Oh yeah tell your MT never to worry about you returning to full mana because of this.

The biggest key to keeping perpetualty going is recasting maintained spells like brain burst, abolish hope and tribulation. The recast timers are up on those before the duration is off. Recasting these will most definitly allow you to keep it going, not to mention you proc like crazy. WIth all of that in mind it is not advised by me to sink AA points into Abloish Hope because it will never wear off. Brain burst is still cool.

Dont forget about dispell. That spell has a pretty fast casting time and recast time. You can use that to help keep things going too.

Group mobs are easy, start with Dazzeling Array, then Ultra Violent Storm. If both of those are down and so if Momentary Sentiment just cast Phantasmal Replendance.

If all else fails you can just recast a group buffs to return to *5.

Last thing, If you find the mobs are resisting everything, which can kinda mess of the flow of things, move Abolish Hope up higher on the priority list to decrease resistance.

-stump

On raids sometimes I start with this though (depending on the hate gain level of the MT)

Tribulation

Forsake Will

Chronosiphoning

Tumor

Drain Tought

Abolish Hope

Then go ape po0 crazy with the rest of the chains.

However it is important to get your other spells off so that the recast timers start ticking on them quickly. Just my two cents here.

recast brainburst only after it terminates - Completely dissagree here. This is useless because casting these right after they are ready is going to result in procs that will equal more damage than the termination damage does. Also recasting this will get you closer to the >30% mana for the INT line if you go with that. Perhaps it would be useful after the >30% mana to not recast this spell and wait for the ternmination.
