View Full Version : Necromancer vs illusionist in PVP

I'm a level 41 illusionist on a PvP server. Here's the question: When fighting a necromancer, how do you deal with those pesky dumbfire pets? I tried to mez them, but unfortunantly it didn't work. Tested this strategy twice, same result. Then I tried blink, but that didn't help much either. At this point I was getting kinda desperate and threw in the rest of my encounter target spells (a little stifle here and some interrupts there), but the little rats still carried on their merry way. Unfortunantly, I don't seem to have enough AE dps to take them out so I need to keep them busy somehow. Anyone knows a way to counter this?(Yes, I'm a noob.)

make sure u root the pet afterwards too

if u have spellshield up, either summoner can use a low lvl AE dot on u, and when it reflects, it prevents mezzes to both him and the pet. and since itll only hit for like 20/tick, it doesnt really hurt him.

As for spellshield, could anyone clarify what "only profession spells" means?

I was thinking this means only Enchanter spells can be reflected, however below I see you are talking about necro spells???

Thanks a lot in advance.

its basically a fix from exploiting it on raids to reflect epic level mob only uber debuffs.professon spells = anything that players have from their class
Message Edited by Xanoth on 12-11-2006 03:07 PM

Wow, this is awesome...

But why in the world this spell is then considered "by all accounts broke/useless/waste of rare" (from the adjacent thread)

spellshield is lvl 58 spell

has a chance to reflect spells back on to casters- does come in handy sometimes. other times may not. rofl when running away from grps of freeps.. it's best to turn off so it doesn't put u in combat. yeps yeps!

necros are fun to fight =D im 70 now and when i fight them i can mez there main pet and pwn them easily or i can let it attack me and have fun.

@ 41 mezzing there main pet would be good since lower lvls necros pets are good. Debuff necro, set up DoTs and run around. ownage. aights

be easy

auk thanks, this is what I thought.

Are you saying this spell does not work in PVE completely?

Or it does not work on epics only, but works on regular heroics?

Thanks!

It'll reflect spells the mob has that players can also have. Absolutely none of these "profession spells" will make or break an encounter. They're generally weak or easily countered. Any spell you'd actually want to reflect in PvE is probably a special ability designed specifically for that encounter and can't be reflected. This is especially true of epic mobs, but you'll also find it true against some of the more difficult named heroics.I do use it a lot in places like Vaults, PoA, SoS, but only because its fun seeing a monk with a SK Nefarious Sacrament pet or watching a group of Erudites fear themselves. Its very useful for soloing, say, a coercer type mob as it will reflect their mez (which they can cast while stunned and mezzed, and they chain cast it if its the only thing they can cast at the time). In fact I don't think I could have killed the Librarian guy in Forsaken City solo without it. Still, with a tank and a healer, he woulda been a pushover, spellshield or not.So, basically, raiding: worthless (except when taking advantage of a bug). grouping: fun to use sometimes but no big deal. solo: can be extremely useful if you're out of your element soloing heroic spell casting mobs that can cast through stun.
