I love my Wizard. I find the class incredibly fun, and would like to say that you won't be disappointed if you stick with it. However, if the Illusionist's abilities are calling out to you, and you like the thought of having a bigger bag of tricks, that may be the way to go for you. Particularly in PvP, an Illusionist may not be as dirctly powerful, but they do have more options for strategic and group-based play.

That's the thing, though... you mentioned that this would be for solo play. The Wizard is probably the superior overall solo-er, though not necessarily by much. If by solo PvP you mean duels, it would really just depend on what meshed with your own playstyle better. If you meant running around by yourself and possibly (read: probably) having to deal with groups trying to gank you, the Illusionist has a better shot at surviving.

Honestly, that's the kind of question that has everything to do with what you find the most fun. Have you looked over the Illusionist and Wizard AAs? What kinds of things look most interesting to you? With a better idea of the playstyle you favor, us forum-readers will be able to give you a better response.

But.... no way in hell is a wizard a superior soloer. Not even close. For certain types of mobs, the wizzy is an insane soloer, definately better for certain types than the illusionist. But, for 90% of the encounters out there, the illusionist is the hands-down better soloer.

Where the wizard shines is against SINGLE, NON-CASTING mobs, in OUTDOOR situations with lots of room to run. The wizzy also shines when taking on single blue-con or lower solo mobs (they usually die with one big fireball).

Wizard soloing is straight forward: root + nuke + repeat. Illusionist soloing is so much more diverse.

I must admit that I absolutely love burning things down with the wizzy, especially in groups. But, when I play my wizard, I find myself longing for the versatility of my illusionist. When I'm on the illusionist, I do miss the big nukes, but that is the only one aspect that is missing. Playing the wizard gets boring after a while because the tactics never change. Playing an illusionist is always fun and challenging.

The choice is yours. There are definately preferred playstyles for both classes. Find the one you like and go with it.

My wizzy simply destroyed it when it was yellow ^^^. Root, nuke, repeat. Simple. Much easier that with my illusionist, which took like 10 minutes to solo it. Then again, if some roaming wasp agroed me, the illusionist just mezed it, while the wizzy basically had to break the encounter and run them both off. Again, I am talking only about soloing even-con ^^^ heroic named mobs, not about killing green heroics or solo trash mobs.
