My main is a Templar but I've started an Illusionist because I wanted a viable solo class. While solo is the main reason for choosing this class, I wanted to see what the latest ideas are (post EoF) for how to play in a group. I've read the posts on Mezing in groups. That issue aside, what is the role of the Illusionist in a group? I assume the pet is not used generally? Thanks for your thoughts.

DPS.Keep your eyes open for that add that might be one too many.In EQLive, oftentimes one add WAS one too many. In EQ2, a couple adds are just slightly more XP. It takes a few adds before things get tricky.

if ur gonna be in pickup groups, get a feel for the groups abilities before deciding what to and not to mezz. after that, its all DPS from there.

just remember, if u get one add too many, and your tank is skilled enough to pick em up but ur healer cant keep him alive, ur best bet is to use stuns dazes and stifles, not mezzes. Thats just me though.

Drop the pet and use the three extra slots to buff the MT and DPS classes. You will basically target the MT and do the following:

Cast prismatic on the MT

Nuke

DoT

Repeat

If the encounter has multiple mobs, resist the urge to mez. Let the MT get in at least one AoE taunt, and then unload on your AoE spells. Illusionist AoE particle effects are so uber, especially with a good video card. If adds show up, let the MT grab agro. Most good groups can handle multiple mobs. No need to mez unless the group or MT sucks.

The only time I might be tempted to bust out a CC spell when grouped is when the encounter has a healer mob in it. Nothing is more annoying than trying to kill mobs that can heal themselves or their friends. But, you may find that sending your construct onto a healer will keep it busy while also killing it slowly.

Of course, if the group sucks, or the MT is a joke, or there are no healers, you will be using your CC spells a lot just to keep everyone alive. But then again, you are the premier soloer in the game, so why waste your time in a [Removed for Content] group?
