View Full Version : I Got Split Personality AA Today

<DIV>Well.. finally after a load of AA grinding I have the ability to test all top level AA skills for illusionists. The one that intrigued me most was Split Personality, because I suspected it would be crap or bugged, or probably both.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>And... (drum roll)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Sadly and very disappointingly, I was right. I grabbed an Assasin and we tested on a range of mobs that allowed the full 15-seconds of summon to run its course, and at best he hit <STRONG>once</STRONG> during the whole period. That's right, he just stands there doing nothing. We tried many variations to get it to work, sometimes I assisted, sometimes sent my personae in to help, etc. None of it did any good.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The only use I can see for Split Personality is for raiding to assist in aggro management (it adds to the targets hate ranking upon dissapation). But, who cares really.. it should have been much more than this, at the moment it is basically useless.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>On the positive - after that testing session, disgusted with Split Personality I reset my AA and grabbed Illusory Arm instead. <STRONG>And oh.. my.. gosh.. its awesome</STRONG>! Combined with the Alacrity line of haste buffs, you turn someone in your group into an instant killing machine. 25% chance for double-attacks is a huge factor, 1 in 4 attacks averaged over time are proccing and it is very noticeable. The Assasin I tested with was overjoyed. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>So really, this has settled it for me - getting Illusory Arm lets you make one melee a DPS king, and the other top AA skill Time Compression lets you do something similar for a mage. This setup allows a single Illusionist to bring two major AA DPS benefits to the table on top of their normal buff lines.. great stuff, we really do get some of the best AA's in EQ2.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>But.. what a disappointment about Split Personality.. I really wanted that spell to work, but it needs to last much longer and they need to totally redo the AI routine because it is bugged 100%.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <P><SPAN class=time_text>Edit: forgot to add something I know you guys were interested in.. if you cast Split Personality on your pet, sure, it works.. but the summon is even more of a vegetable than when summoned on a player character. He might as well be a rock on the ground, all he does is stand there looking at the mob my personae is attacking for 15 seconds then disappears. It is good for novelty value tho, two exact copies of me running around.. but, sigh...</SPAN></P> <P><SPAN class=time_text></SPAN> </P><p>Message Edited by Spiritualized on <span class=date_text>11-22-2006</span> <span class=time_text>10:38 PM</span>

<DIV>yup. that AA is worthless, along with the rest of that line.</DIV>
<div></div>Crud. I was completelyl planning to get it, even if it wasnt the best. But 'one' hit really is crappy. I three box illusionists, and with three identical pets, I was hoping to see three more Split Personalities in my group. But I guess its not worth it.The Personae casting time reduction sounded decent. Intensity bit sounded decent. I figured the Construct bit might prove useful. Well, maybe they'll buff it.I dont use dots, so I feel the Time Compression line would have alot of wasted points. Id only be using the Illusionary Arm on my Personae, so not sure if thats worth it. I can keep Fleeting Thoughts up all the time, so wasnt thinking of going for the Resistance line.Whats the duration on the final group resistance improver?<div></div><p>Message Edited by Faelos on <span class=date_text>11-22-2006</span> <span class=time_text>09:17 AM</span>

<P>Can you confirm that Time Compression still cannot be maintained on the illusionist themselves? I noticed the spell description was slightly different from that posted during beta, making me wonder if they changed it to work like most our other buffs (i.e. reads group ally, but can actually be cast on self as well).</P> <P>Thanks</P>

<DIV>You don't use dots? Geesh!</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The magic debuff alone on Abolish Hope makes that a bad decision....</DIV>

I agree.A very high portion of an Illusionists damage comes from their DoT's. If I took Abolish Hope, Brainburst, Construct of Reason, Solar Shower and Ultraviolet Storm off my hotbars I'm not sure what I'd be doing besides watching everyone else.I'll bet that those spells are more than half my damage!<div></div>

<P>Thanks for posting this. I respecialized my points last night and fell asleep before spending them. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></P> <P>I was planning on spending them for that split line. I'll just take my chances with the extra attack line now.</P> <P> </P> <P>Have you tested out the wisdom line, that has the charm option? </P> <P>-I know that it works over and above pets up, and it assumes the same commands that are performed with your current pet. Any additional info would be great thanks.</P> <P> </P>

<DIV>Okay, some updates based on further testing and questions asked by posters above:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>- Unfortunately time compression cannot be cast on yourself still.. but it can be cast on your pet, which is a nice change from this skill in beta. Illusory Arm can be cast on yourself, for what it's worth.</DIV> <DIV>- The final skill in the resistance line (Illuminate) last for only 15 seconds with a 1min30sec recast timer. Illuminate and Split Personality are basically useless.. very disappointing.</DIV> <DIV>- I haven't tested the final Enchanter AA skills because I wanted to achieve Illusionist AA skills as soon as possible. My opinion is that once you get Chronosiphoning in the Agility line you can take a holiday from that tree and put AA levels into the Illusionist tree, because you get a lot more bang for your buck. The brief charm from the Wisdom line sounds fun, but who knows how useful it will really be compared to the top AA skills from other lines.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

<P>Yeah the charm on the KoS wis line is awful. If it worked for a set 30s it would be at least somewhat useful, the problem is that it often breaks after 5s on a green mob heh.</P> <P> </P> <P>Aluvius</P>

So with three pets nuke/stun/stifling and my three illusionists, I drop mobs in two-three nukes. So DOTs never get close to finishing. Lately I have been dropping the debuff DOT on ^^^s before I start nuking though. I started taking the Phantasmal upgrade, as I like improvements in its cast time. But once thats finished, I still thinking of going down the Illusions line. Faster pet recast is nice when one goes down. Maybe Ill keep going for a longer Construct of Order, though I guess people dont think this is descent. Prismatic Discord under the time compression line sounds good, and Sadness speeding up would be a good thing. I guess spending points in Migraine wouldnt kill me.I guess I might just go the Time Compression route.Thanks,Mal</div><p>Message Edited by Faelos on <span class=date_text>11-24-2006</span> <span class=time_text>05:08 AM</span>

That doesn't make sense you know.If you are going to three box Mages, you'd be far better served running a Wizard, Illusionist and Conjuror.<div></div>
Nah, ive tried it. Three conjurers work really well. Three necros work really well. Three wizards are good. Two Wizards and an Illusionist are good also. But with one conjurer you have a tank pet that cant hold aggro from the wizard, and not enough AE damage to drop stuff fast enough, and the Illusionist loses alot usefulness if you are AEing. If Im AEing I either go three Warlocks or three Conjurers, the conjurers working better with three taunting pets. If I want to drop stuff fast, either the three wizards or two and an illusionist. But having tried it, I like the three Illusionists. Three stunning, stifling, dazenuking pets. Three Illusionists doing the same. Three Fleeting Thoughts, so it up all the time. Overlapping CC. I can keep Alacrity on all the pets and one group buff with each guy. And being able to cycle through pets is nice.<div></div>

THIS BLOWWWS! <img src="/smilies/9d71f0541cff0a302a0309c5079e8dee.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> Thanks for posting it, of course, but what a dissapointment. I was really looking forward to this ability for the coolness factor, but not if it hardly does anything...I guess this can be seen as a good thing as it did require a higher number of AP's to get that the other leaf node abilities...Quick slightly related question: What about Illusory Allies? Tell me that one is somewhat usefull...<div></div>

<DIV>Well since the original post the Split Personality has been buffed in the latest Game Udpate (30, I think?). I haven't seen anyone post on the improved version yet, hopefully it actually does some damage now .. correction, it had better do a good bit of damage to justify taking it in place of spell haste or the double attack AA buff.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Aluvius</DIV>

<P>Split persona is so good that i would NEVER consider swapping it.</P> <P>Example of exeptional uses: </P> <P>-Tank agro, raid tank never having a problem with agro any more, regardless of guild dps.</P> <P>-Pulling, tank targets a mob, split persona goes in, tank got all the agro as if he pulled himself, with the benefits of a pet pull. Incredible raid pulls can be done.</P> <P>-Wipe preventions: Illusory allies, followed by the split persona, when allies is down, split persona goes down pretty soon after and tank got agro back, mages and healers in your group are saved. Often a fact for a raid tank in trouble too.</P> <P>I could keep it up all day, in short, it rocks. </P> <P> </P>
