I am somewhat new to eq2. I only have one other character and it is a level 19 monk. I've been thinking of making a character that would provide immense group utility. I don't want to top the dps charts. I am looking to provide GREAT group utility while doing my decent share of DPS. I also would not mind some soloing ability once in a while, but my primary purpose is to group. What do you all think of an illusionist for my scenario?

Enchanters, especially Coercers, are among the most difficult classes to play well in EQ2 and I do not recommend them for new players. I have (over 10) characters of all archetypes and my Illusionist is the most challenging -- but also the most rewarding -- character to play. If you want great utility, good DPS, an important and challenging role (not just a button masher) I recommend trying a Bard (but soloing is not easy).

I am not a huge fan of scout classes. Bad taste in my mouth from playing rogues in World of Warcraft. I suppose if I want group utility a healer is the way to go instead of an Illusionist. Anyway, something to think about. Thank you!

I think Illusionist would be a fine choice. I think they are good soloers, though not quite up to Conjurers or Necros. They have good utility. Coercer is definately a harder class to play, as you need to charm to solo, and have to upgrade your charm spells to do it effectively.

Still screwes up and refuses to change. As for being an illusionist here are some key things to remeber ( or Corcer for that matter)-Don't try to Mezz just because you can, IE fighter pull a trio and you try to mez two of them even though the DPSers are looking to "weaken" everyone.... To make a short tip long... Unless the healers under real stress, or you have a Rogue who can't keep all mobs on her/him Focus on Stuns/stiffles.-Alot of Chanters B*tch like theres no tommarow when a Mezz gets broken ( usually due to miscommunation) Please grab a stress ball instead. Well my first tip actually was most of what I know hehe I don't have alot of expereince with them unfortunatly. If you do choose this path, I wish you luck and many kills... er.. well lots of loot, lol.
