Hello everybody, I am new to this class and the game in general and find it rather difficult to choose the right tradeskill for my new illusionist, which so far I really like.Let me start by saying that I browsed through this forum as wells as the artisan forums but the more I read the more difficult it seems to make the right decision. My choice boiled down to the tradeskills listes below and what I think about them. My thoughts are partly based on other MMORPGs and my experience on the Isle of Refuge and might be completely off the mark, so please correct me, if they are wrong. I am looking for a tradeskill, which is fun and at least of some use an illusionist.Tailor:Tailoring your own cloth was nice on the starting isle, but my concern with this tradeskill is that it might not be as useful as it seems on the first sight. With two expansions out and a third nearby there ought to be lots of reachable cloth items in the game thereby reducing the advantage of making your own.Provisioner:Also fun, but hard work because of the big quantity of stuff to make in order to keep well fed.Jeweler:Big cat likes shiny little toys, but the spells would be useless for an illusionist.Alchemist:This one is a big question mark to me. The spells are for other classes and I don't suppose we use poison. Then there are consumable potions and being able to craft your own consumables is never bad. But I simply can't judge the importance or value of potions in the game yet. No real optortunity to try alchemy out on the isle either.Sage:Since I am new, being able to craft the needed spells seems like a good idea, but from what I read scribing sounds a little low on the fun side and I could not try it out yet.Well my post turned out a little longer and since this question gets asked from time to time, it might become a little annoying to hear it again, but if anybody can help me with a little advice I would be grateful.

To state my bias from the outset, my illusionist is a sage and my warden is a tailor. With that said, here are my reactions:

Tailor: My tailor has always been about 10 levels behind my illusionist so I've never really gotten much benefit from him. With that said, you're gonna be wearing their goods for most of the game, and the crafted/mastercrafted stuff is great for us. Also, being able to make hex dolls and bags is helpful. Potential to make money is also there as well. With EoF coming out, cloaks will probably provide another reason to be a tailor.

Provisioner: Not really worth it from a practical standpoint, as food is relatively cheap to buy. You'd have to ask provisioners about how much money they can make, but thats a seperate concern.

Jeweler: No first-hand experience with this so its hard to comment. We do wear their jewelry, but I've never really felt the urge to roll one. As you mentioned, their spells aren't helpful for us but would provide an additional source of income.

Alchemist: Fairly useless for an illusionist, since we don't really need their potions. Again, you'd have to ask one about how much money they make, but I would suspect its a fair amount.

Sage: I've had absolutely no regrets on choosing a sage, and would do it again given the choice. Being able to make your own Adept 3 pets and other spells is really helpful, and you can make good money as well.

So, my completely idiosyncratic ordering: Sage > Tailor > Jeweler > Alchemist/Provisioner. What’s everyone else think?

Calias Mistweaver <The Honorable> 52 Illusionist/52 Sage of Mistmoore
Aegdar Mistwarden <The Honorable> 33 Warden/49 Tailor of Mistmoore
Bajazet Stormsong <The Honorable> 28 Troubadour/42 Woodworker of Mistmoore

You pretty much need to go Sage (unless you already have one of course). You will need spell upgrades all the time. Most people dont make and sell stuff below there level unless asked for it. Stuff on the brokers will be very high.I have a tailor on one guy, but honestly the stuff he produces is not worth making a tailor for, unless you already have a Sage.

Thanks for your answers. Both of you provided from your experience good arguments towards going sage or against a more "crafty" tradeskill. From what I understand that should make for less trouble during advancement of my first char and so I will play it safe and make that my choice.
