Cant make up my mind on which to take and which would help me out more in the long run.

Is making your own spell adepts overrated? Because i see some masters that are less then the rares on my server ( guk ).

Kinda leaning toward tailor because gear can be most expensive and hex dolls seem like a nice addition to being a tailor.

So far illusionist is pretty fun and im liking it alot. I just need to find a niche on what trade skill to choose. Thanks for the help all.

Sage.

Quested/dropped gear is pretty much equal or better than crafted rares.

Spell upgrades are far more important than armor for any mage.

I actually am VERY glad I picked alchemist with illusionist. I am currently 70/70 alchy/illus and am enjoying the benefits quite well. The int buffs from potions and health regen help in many solo/group/raid situations. I would recommend this combo to anyone.

My personal thoughts are to pick something other than a sage for an illusionist counterpart. I am a 70 illusioinist/70 sage. Here is my reasoning:

There aren't many illusionists out there. You will have no trouble finding your adept 1 books, cheap. I think this is fairly uniform across all servers.

Adept 3 spells are okay, but at least on the Nek server, most master spells are available at rate comparible to the cost of the spell rare. This will vary by server.

I got all of my T7 masters for an average of about 5 plat each. Moonstones were going for about the same price at the time. There were about 3-4 exceptions, but none of them cost more than 11 plat (solar shower and prismatic havoc being the highest price of 10-11 plat each).

The bottom line is that I haven't made myself an illusionist adept 3 spell in ages. This will vary by server. I also don't make a lot of money on the side as a sage, although I do make spells for guildies (conjurers, wizzies, etc - those classes that master spells are very expensive for).

During T6, I found that jewelers were the most useful for me as an illusionist. Some tailor items were nice as well.

My thoughts,

Zebsen

I made myself a sage, and it's pretty much a waste of time. I wish I had used that time to skill an alchemist instead.

Sages are willing to work for pennies or even do things at cost--they just want you to provide them with the rare ink. Unless you find the rare apothecary books with the ink recipes you will be unable to make yourself adepts and will still require a middleman. (This might be changing, but when?) 99% of the cost of your adept III comes from the rare/ink, not the scribing process, so by cutting out the sage, you're not really saving money

If you want to make AD3-ing your spells less costly or more convenient, being an alchemist is better for that, plus you can keep yourself stocked up on potions and other consumables.

Message Edited by Melmoth1820 on 05-10-2006 10:25 AM

I would definitely vote against Sage (and Tailor, Armorer, and Weaponsmith). It's very easy to level up fast because of all the recipes that give pristine bonuses, but it's so easy to find a cheap 70 sage for the few Adept III's that you'll need that it's really not worth it for purposes of practicality.

Have you already used up all your character slots? If not, make one of each.
