Hi there,

Apologies for the newbie nature of the post. Have been playing EQ2 for some time, as well as other MMORPGs over the years, and I think I have a handle on most of the classes, but have always shied away from the CC classes such as illusionist. Now, have just started an Illusionist (to see what all the fuss is about!), but I am a bit overwhelmed by the variety of spells / abilities!

I have done a search for a few guides / hints, but many seem to refer back to the days of subclasses, or assume an understanding of the class that I clearly don't have! Does anyone have a link or two that they may care to share, that my searching has not revealed? (And apologies in advance if I have missed a blatantly obvious link somewhere)

To give you an idea, I am confused about the difference between root, stifle and stun! Which should be used and when? And if trying to control a group of mobs, is it a case of targetting and mezzing each in turn, or am I missing a trick here? (Oh, and should I send in the personae first, then start mezzing, or the other way round?!)

Any pointers most welcome. Basically I am trying to start the character on the right footing, with a better understanding of my role and abilities, but I am quite prepared to learn as well!

Thanks in advance!

LilDai

Root: Prevents a mob from moving

Stifle: Prevents a mob from using combat arts/spells (can still use autoattack though)

Stun: Prevents a mob from doing anything at all....kind of like putting him to sleep

As far as when u should use them...well, use ur imagination. Like i mean, if a mage steals aggro, that would prolly be a good time for a stun. If ur fighting a named that has big nukes, then its prolly time for stuns and stifles.

That's rigth.

As a chanter (Ilusionist or Coercer) you'll have mezz, strifes, stuns and roots.

You should have a look at their durations also

Mezz: Mobs can't do nothing. Hi duration and break whenever target an ofensive action.

This spells is ideal to manage Adds. Or to figth the less amount of mobs of a group at the same time.

Roots: Mobs can't move, but can cast spells and if you get too close target can attack you. Hi duration and have a chance to break whenever targets takes damage or is target of a ofensive action.

Stuns: Mobs can't do nothing. short duration and do not break.

Strifle: Mobs can't employ combat art or spells. short duration and do not break.

Thanks to all for the pointers - that is exactly what I needed to get on with the character.

Bawang - you are pretty close to what I am thinking! My main is a healer, but I wanted to try something that wasn't just a healer / tank / damage dealer. I know it will be more difficult / complicated, but would like something of a different challenge!

Thanks again!

Lildai

I have recently started a Illusionist, she is at level 21. I like her so far but one thing I have noticed, and this is from my perspective, is your pet is your only friend. I find it almost impossible to find a group. I always have my LFG on and so far I have grouped once.

Maybe it will change when I get to a higher level.

Its good that we can solo well but that does not help in the armor quests.

Dont mean to be negative, its just what I have observed so far.
