Hi, new illusionist here ( for the time being - still debating between illusionist and Coercer :smileywink

Have a question though - I just turned 12 and got Trance, but I can't figure out the difference between that and Sleep, aside from Trance having 10 times the power cost. According to the description on the spells when you examine them, they have same duration, same cast time, same resistability - yet they are on the same cooldown. Is there a difference?

Also, when do we get a Mez line that is on a different cooldown from the sleep line? I heard we have 4 mezzes, so i'm assuming they are all on separate cooldowns?

Generally, upgrades to the CC spell lines have increased power usage and increased duration. By cramming multiple upgrades to the first mez line into the first 20 levels, they don't leave much room to improve them and still maintain scalability, but the improvement is more noticeable in later levels. The first group mez is the Phantasmal line and appears at 23. The second single target mez is the Regalia line, and shows up at 40.

mez duration usually increases by 5 sec with each higher lvl mez.

if there is zero increase in duration with our low lvl spells then this was an oversight and should be /feedback.

Also note that a given mez spell, at least in the past, had max level effective against, so you may find your lv 1 sleep spell not working on say a lv 16 mob. So use your lower level one as long as you can till you get that message and have to switch if the durations are the same

According to devs you can use a level 1 mez on a level 70 mob. Level does not matter. You have to consider resistability power duration recast....level is not a factor.

The Devs state it, and in my experience it's true. I scribed an app IV version of Empty Mind (t7 mez) and have a master 1 of an old mez (t2 I believe). I compared the resist rate of the two for fun on some mobs in the bonemire. The master one of the old spell was much better than the new spell at the lower quality level. I didn't document it, but I thought the effects were fairly obvious (no resists with master, several with the app IV).

In my opinion once you get a reasonably high level master (say t5 or above) of each of the 3 mezzes, there is very little need to ever scribe the others. Master 1 (or 2) will land more than the others, and unless you are trying to control and insane amount of mobs and swapping targets like mad, the increased 5 second duration will very rarely come into play.

Zebsen

When I got my lvl 52 mez, I was upgrading all my key spells to adept III and was considering doing that for the mez. But then I researched when I would get my next Master II choice and realized it was only 2 lvls away. So I waited for lvl 54 and upgraded my lvl 52 mez to Master II. I'm very happy with the choice as I've had no problem mezzing orange Bixies in Tenebrous Tangle.

Bawango

56 illusionist - Crushbone

I think its worth it to scribe the t7 mezzes personally. All tho regula is only a 2.5 duration increase (bleh) but empty mind is a huge increase...I think 50+ seconds (can't remember exactly offhand). That one is worth it to me even with the upped power cost.

As it is now I have so much FT stuff AND our power regen all the time.....plus some gloves where you right click and give you power from lab...I just don't run out of power that much ever. Not sure about the rest of you guys on this but power is not really an issue for me.

on raids i burn through power like crazy. but on raids its doesnt matter if my mez spell takes more power to cast anyways.

with spell haste? at raids im usually the first one OOP. on the big bosses i usually have to use those dracomancer gloves (the clicky ones), vessel, and manastone out the ying-yang. And this is even with master 2 epiphany (42/tick) and around 47/tick from gear.
