Savante basically decreases the amount of power needed to cast a spell.

Illusory Allies can drop off of mobs, but cannot be bought at a NPC Merchant. Same with Savante and Spellshield (The 3 ANcient Teachings)

You still have to have enough power in your pool to cast the spell, because the reduction is applied after you cast the spell.

Savante reduces the amount of power used for spells/combat arts. As for when it should be used, I usually decide when to use it fairly early and try not to wait until the group down to 25% power. Basically if I notice we're in for a long fight (raids, overly ambitious tanks) I get it out early just to keep the power of the group high and to hopefully get another chance to cast it again later in the same fight.

The Ancient Teachings spells (every class gets 3, at 52, 55 and 5 can be made by Sages who have scribed the Ancient Teachings recipe for that spell.

Savante is great for long fights, ring events, groups that chain pull. The whole group gets the mana cost reduction while it lasts.
