You'll have no trouble soloing as an illusionist. Of all the things which I found different from the EQ1 Enchanter, this was probably what surprised me the most. I didn't expect it at all. In fact, I chuckled the first time I realized that I could actually send my pet to attack something. That's because I expected the passive pet which we got in EQ1.

Illusionists are pretty good in a duo with almost any class. That's because we can use crowd control spells (mezzes, stuns, stifles) to reduce the damage taken by the group. So if you and your friend are fighting a group of 4, you can mez three and let the conjuror's pet go through one at a time. Add in your pet, plus stuns, and spell proc buffs on the two of you or maybe haste on the pet. And add in your damage and the fact that conjurors can heal their own pets. A pretty nice combo.Just have your friend turn off the "pet guard me" and "guard yourself" buttons so that it doesn't instantly break your mezzes when it's done with the first mob. One of you can open with a stun, then send the pets in and that gives them time to get aggro.

Roots from yourself and your pet would help in a duo with conj as well (not sure how well the earlier pet roots since I never had a pet until after it was added). That way you can go crazy with dmg and not worry about agro. Plus if it does happen to go after you or the conj you can stun it pretty easy, re-root. A conj+illusionist DUO could be very well done with some smart tactics.

Solos ok. Duo ok, with conjuror you just need to sort out when to mez and when to AE.

Played my ranger to 60 (pre-KoS) and then made my illusionist because I wanted to try it out. Illusionist is now 46, ranger is 64. When I can't get a guild group (cause random PuGs suck) I play my illusionist. Either soloing or with a guild group... and it rocks. I'm having TONS of fun with him.

As for duoing with a Conjuror, the two of you will ROCK. Conj is all about damage, you're all about crowd controll and power regen and buffs... sounds like a great team to me.

Hehe - OK, here's the other side of it. There are very few reasons to play an Enchanter in EQ2, and duoing with a conjurer should be last on the short list.

The best toon to duo a conjurer is probably a Fury - or one of the other chain or leather Priests - toons that can heal, improve pet dps, and solo.

The Enchanter is a "neither-this-nor-that" toon. Most folks who rolled one wanted to do crowd control, not dps, tank, or heal. Unfortunately - for a variety of reasons you can bore yourself to tears with elsewhere on the boards - crowd control in EQ2 is a frustrating experience at best.

SOE's latest incarnation of the Illusionist is a better mage than it once was, and an adequate soloer. But, if you want to solo with a pet be a conjuror or a necro . . . if you want to be a mage, be a wizard or a warlock. You should only choose Enchanter if you are into crowd control . . . and are a masochist.

Swift - 70 Swash

Hesper - 70 Fury

Hawke - 67 Illusionist

Cambren - 56 Guardian

An illusionist is a good duo with virtually any class. But the best duos for an illu are with other mages, druids, or rangers. Each class has its pros and cons in a duo, but those all work amazingly well. Its just the classes that have to get up close and personal u wanna stay away from for the most part, or the ones with no real dps at all (clerics).
