Your personae pet is good, particularly solo, where it adds dps and can be a sort of weak tank. No reason not to use it solo - in groups, you will not use it due to conc. slots better used elsewhere.

Well, if you always group in full balanced groups, you won't need to bring out the pet. Soloing without the pet would be very slow, annoying, and painful.

Solo the pet is great. It stuns a lot, roots, and so on.The funny thing is, I did not sign onto this class to be a pet manager. In fact, after playing a mage in EQ1 from day 1 all the way through GoD, I decided I did not want to be a pet focused class again. Illusionist, with crowd control, mind muddling and (so I thought) ILLUSIONS (I mean, was I wrong in thinking Illusionist would cast illusions?), was attractive to me.What I ended up with was a mostly DoT-focused damage/stun class, that is dependent on the pet to solo, that doesn't cast any illusions at all (other than human, which is just silly. I'm sure many illusionists haven't even bothered to get the spell. ) In groups, our most prominent ability, mezzing, often just gets in the way; people always tell me, "don't mez there is no need, just stun and cast that color rain thing". Yawn. I have more fun soloing, so that's what I do a lot.It is abundantly evident that the designers of EQ2 just got lost along the way on this class. We don't do what our name implies we do, and our abilities are perceived as useless by pretty much everybody other than people that play the class. I don't even try to argue anymore, I just accept the fact people consider illusionists largely a waste of time and go solo in DoF again.Put it this way; start a poll. What class would make the least impact on the game if it was removed? I guarantee you without a doubt, that it would be Illusionist almost (if not entirely) unanimously. But, it's the class I picked, so it's the class I play. I don't have the time or inclination to level another toon up to the top levels. It's just frustrating to see us get whittled away at by SoE, often without any notice, as our class seems to get further and further away from what we all hoped it would do...something with ILLUSIONS.Man would I love to go to a fan fair and ask a panel, "why don't illusionists cast any useful illusions?". I mean, what could they possibly say?
Message Edited by MyChatBot on 02-23-200606:11 PM

Well said Mychatbot, I think its sad that SOE has simply given up on the class. Either they think its fine or they just dont think its worth fixing/changing. In either case I think its dissappointing because they have done such a truely amazing job with almost every other class in the game.

So much potential and such a poor effort made.

I mean its an ILLUSIONIST which should have amazing-fun-unique illusions.

At the very minimum they could have self illussions for every race which would actually con as such (aggro)... could even do other city quests.

But, why not add some simple incombat illusions with basic effects that already exist in the game.. (effects being similar to stuns, knock downs, agg reduction, dps reductions, etc).

oh well, just keep hoping.
