<div>24 Illus here still trying to learn the basics. I see many descriptions such as this for a lvl 30 Illus spell: "Speechless: Stifles and drains power over time". I don't remember this word being used in EQ1 in spell descriptions. Is it a form a root? is it a stun? is it a combination of both of these?. Please do tell.</div>
<div></div>stifle prevents from using spells and special attacks. very powerful against caster and healer and also will reduce the damage a melee can do by a high amount.

Yep, you can basically think of it as if you're stifled, you can move around and do autoattack, and that's all.<div></div>

<div></div>Thanks. That's very helpful. I guess my next question is: How long does "stifling" last? I imagine it lasts longer than stunning since stunning already prevents these things.

<div></div><p>duration is listed in the spell description, examine your spell to get the info.</p><p>in our illu career we get 3 spells that have a stifle with them, duration is different and depends on spell and lvl. higher lvl spells usually stifle for slightly longer.</p><p>if not stated otherwise stifle will last its full duration like listed in the description. exception is the stifle that comes with our root. it has a chance to break each time damage is done to the mob.</p>

<div></div>Just be aware that the definition you've been given so far is the "simple one". Things to be aware of, though, are that some classes (and therefore some mobs) have abilities that can be used even while stifled or to block the stifling. Some named mobs have "inert abilities" that stifle does not prevent. And lastly, Epic mobs are immune to stifle. Just a few things to be aware of. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />
