<div>I was wondering if you thought an Illusionist would be a good choice for a new player.  My other options I suppose are Wizard and maybe Coercer (though I did not hear good things about coercers).  Would love to hear your thoughts.</div><div> </div><div>Can an Illusionist solo effectively?</div><div> </div><div>Are Illusionists wanted in groups?</div><div> </div><div> </div>

<div></div><p>its all about your play style really.</p><p> </p><p>illusionists are all about control, and i'd say we solo pretty well (yellow heroic encounters), and probably with a little more safety due to mez's and stuns than a wizard would. our power regen and buffs are also in demand. although illusionists that over mez can put off new palyers from grouping with chanters, as that just messes with agro.  soloing does take concentration though, unlike some other easier classes.</p>

<div></div><p>DPS-wise, how do Illusionists compare to Wizards?</p><p>Solo-ability-wise, how do Illusionists compare to Wizards?</p><p> </p><p> </p>

<div>considering a big chunk of our DPS comes from our buffs, or procs, probably not as good. i dont really like parsers, but on raids i usually come above brigands.</div><div> </div><div>and i really dont know on who solo's better. i dont know many wizards that well. i also hate the solo game =/</div><div> </div><div>the best soloing and DPSing class would probably be necro/conjurer though... if thats what your after...</div>

<div>Wizards (and warlocks) are a little broken at the moment, so their damage isnt where it should be. However, Illusionists *can* do close to the damage of a Wizard/Warlock. I have a level 48 Illusionist, and I can solo Lvl 48-50 monsters without too much difficulty. Keep in mind that an Illusionist is going to be doing his or her most damage while in a group, but with that being said, by all means Illusionists have the power to solo.</div>

<div>do NOT play an illusionist ! you have been warned.</div><div> </div><div>illusionist may solo quite well atm due to their pet, but if you want to have a pet, then play a real pet class like summoner or necromancer. Crowd control is not needed in eq2, and you know most things that are "not needed" are useless or worthless. thats like getting some "free" stuff from a teleshop..thats usually worthless too, besides that, crowded control can be done by many other classes as well / efficient.</div><div> </div><div>Our buffs stink and are almost pointless, the only good thing is powerregen, which bards can do better..</div><div> </div><div>At the current state: play a pet class or play a melee (scout) class. They are more powerfull, have more and better utility and have much better armor and avoidance than casters (aka die less )</div><div> </div><div>If you ever think about raiding, illusionist is not the class for you (and raiding might be something with 1-2 groups of friends), as most  of our class defining spells do NOT work against epics (main raid mobs)</div>

<div></div><p>couldn't disagree more with your reasoning, but illusionist certainly isn't an easy class.</p><p> </p><p>to each their own <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></p>

Not because they sux, but because they are a subtle class and it is easier to learn a new game with a more straight forward class.</p><p>soloing illusionist do ok. but if you intend to solo a lot, summoner would maybe be the better choice. both classes use a pet for soloing, just the summoner one is stronger. wizard are amongst the best solo classes too if you are looking for a caster class.</p><p>are illu wanted in group? well, illu do very fine in groups and are usually a welcome addition. but... be prepared that in pick up groups it can become very frustrating for enchanter because many player dont understand how our class works.</p><p>if you intend to raid at later lvl better dont go illusionist. or hope that there will come changes till you are high lvl enough for raids.</p><p> </p><p>so for summary:</p><p>solo : ok</p><p>group : very good</p><p>raid : subpar</p><p>not easy for new player maybe.</p>
