I have read and reread the description of Blink. I get it. Cast it and it reduces the aggro of the mob(s) beating on you and moves you a very small distance.

I even get the fact its PBAOE.

What i do not get is why it ALSO aggros any non aggro mobs that are not engaged in the fight but near enough for the effect.

This is silly, and needs to be fixed.

You know I agree with you about this,. it shouldn't agro non-agro mobs at all.

I used this spell once, in Draflilng Tower and I will never use it again, too much risk for the potential benefit.

I remember when PoP came out in EQL, the slow spells had a chance to actually haste a mob (have the opposite effect), and after much player complaint they changed it, but their resoning was that they didn't want to have spells that did one thing and also had a chance to have an opposite effect, I was reeminded of this statement when I used Blink, it is the same thing to me, a chance of pushing a button and having an opposite effect.

I guess that same reasoning, which I agree with, is not used here in EQ2 and it's a shame, because it would be nice to be able to depend on things doing what they should, not giving nasty surprises randomly.

A threat decrease of 178 was too overpowering, so they needed to give it a significant draw-back.
Well consider this, it's a PBAoE as you say. Well, think about it, it'll hit all mobs around you, and if you're at 0 hate and you reduce it below 0, you effectively have your hate raised to 1, because there is no negative, and if you aren't engaged you're at 0, so reducing it from 0, increases it to 1. It's been this way since release. Live with it.Honestly though, blink needs to be replaced with a targeted hate-reducer that can be cast on 1 person and costs 0 concentration. We "enchant" the mob such that it ignores that person a bit.

The real reason not to use Blink is not the PBAE thing -- if you play a mezzing class you should know where all potential adds are anyway -- but the fact that it only lowers aggro by 178. That's basically...nothing. At least Barrier of Intellect lowers hate an appreciable amount, and scales with level.

It also works the same with ranger deaggro skills (and I assume all scouts). Some people have used those scout abilities to pull with, for that reason, if the tank can't reach it somehow. (Makes it quite easy for tank to grab it.)Whether you actually go into negative hate or not, or if it bumps you to 1 hate instead, I doubt anyone knows. But you definitely get the mob to engage and attack you.
Message Edited by Impetus on 01-11-200604:30 PM

Starting off with Stupefy, aggros the mob.

Pinski wrote:
Starting off with Stupefy, aggros the mob.

True, but if you have your pet active and cast nothing else, when Stupefy wears off (during which time I'm pretty sure mobs can't change targets), it will immediately go for your pet. I'm pretty sure hate can be both positive and negative, which is different from it being null, which it can also be. Stupefy (and scout hate reducing attacks) can engage a mob with negative hate, which immediately send it after someone else in the group (seen this many times duoing with my Paladin and an Assassin pulling), but spells that "add no hate" like the Bewildering Cascade line retain aggro as null and won't even lock the encounter when used as a pull attempt.

It is silly having an aggro reducer that you cant use for fear of getting aggro.

I think this bug may also be complicated by the fact that aggro is kind of linked to your group not just to you individually, although that's been changed recently.

Also maybe they wanted to differentiate us from Scout aggro reduction?

The easiest fix might be to change it to single encounter instead of PBAE. Still only a marginally useful spell though.

The idea for a target hate reduction spell is a nice one however. If we could cast it on multiple targets I'd almost even be happy to pay 1 conc for it, that would give us some sort of role in raids. Troubs get a group hate reducer which would still be better, so that would also be conisistent with all our other abilities.

:smileywink:

Message Edited by Belizarius on 01-11-200604:25 PM

IMO, Blink works that way prolly beacuase the devs feel that we are overpowered. they stated this in the root nerf on LU16(overpowered root, not blink). But honestly, overpowered?! yeah, and my Illus can tank better than a heavy armor class.

This is whats wrong with the game too many nerfs and changes without warrant, and things that make no sense. Secret nerfs and sugar coated changes, such as "oh, we extended the tick of your dot, now your root will break less" = we nerfed your already sucky dps so we don't havta change the root format and make you the uber powerful (/coughs B*llsh*t) mages you were.

LoL. and then soe will wonder why everyone went to vanguard come the end of the year.

Quite the whining. Blink has been this way since day 1.

Quest for Tartons Wheel and Level up to recieve Barrier. Both this spell and item are a lot better than Blink anyway, and definitely have less of a danger aspect.

Why didnt I think to level and quest for Tartons?

Look, if your not going to contribute anything worthwhile, troll the Vanguard boards. Please
