hey surely more of u have same problemits when u root kill mobs the pet think its cool and charge in and want to melee just the thing is the pet cant melee and its walking into range of getting killed how hard can it be to make that the pet just dont charge like that when i can do nothing in there only getting killed, should so much make us a command so we could root it and it will just stay there

kinda agree with the OP.

There are some situations where i like my pet to melee the mobs ( for non heroic mobs for example) but when i'm taking down an heroic mob , obviously he doesnt have a chance. And this is the kind of situation i d prefer to have it by my side far away from the mob nuking.

Depending on the situation its better to have him melee or nuking. The best thing would be to have a button on the pet command bar that could tell him to melee, or to stay near us.

Its really rather simple.

You root the mob and you pulse your pet in and out using attack until your pet starts casting and then call pet back then click attack again.

You can keep pet casting non stop. When your prismatic strife equiv spell is up, let your pet cast 2 times then it gets into melee range. Anticipate when your pet is gunna charge in and protect your pet with multiple stuns while he's procing the melee buff , restablish root and pull pet out.

It seems to me like the pet's root is *really* good. Not sure if that's really true or just me being fooled, but it almost seems like the pet is using a pre-nerf illusionist root. Probably something to do with NPC versions of spells, if so.

What he said works fine. It is as if your pet resets and starts casting again before it runs in like a maniac! You can also make sure your stuns are up and ready to use when pet charges to proc prismatic.

As far as fixes...I would rather see other things worked on. Pet is fine IMO

The 'pulse' tactic is a pretty solid approach. I start my pet in beyond max casting range so that it will run up to max casting and fire off the first spell. I used this to essentially 'learn' a good estimate for what the personae's spell range was so I would know what kind of reactionary timeframe I was dealing with.

From that point on, its root/stun/mez and bounce/pulse the Personae at max cast range...

This is really a 'new' tactic for me because I have always depended upon the pet doing melee (or its weak version of it) to proc off Havoc. I guess this is why I was becoming more and more frustrated with the Personae + Havoc strat. First, it hardly ever got off all the procs. Second, the Personae would get thrashed to quickly and that made me get more involved with my mitigation lines.

That was fine as it just cemented my ability to handle adds/mitigate DPS and such during group encounters... but even THAT was eventually phased out. Same ole 'no need for CC' gripe. So it began to dawn on me that the ONLY times I could FULLY leverage all my arsenal to a meaningful end was when I was solo. I personally, was ready for a change in this. Like I said, I don't mind practicing while solo on skills I can use to an advantage while grouped... but practicing skills that were not 'necessary/ wanted' during groups and raids seemed like a complete waste and only heated me that much more.

However, considering the changes to the Personae, this 'pulse' technique has become a pretty solid solo outlet for me. Ahaha... not that pulsing a pet during a raid is going to provide any unseen advantages, but I'm not really doing anything else either :p

Oh... and no, I don't think we need changes to the pet. If the ability to pull the pet off were not there, I would agree we need a change. With the ability existing already, it just appears the OP needs to switch up the tactics a little.

VR,

Kailen - 60 Illusionist Faydark

Message Edited by junzu on 01-04-2006 12:20 PM
