I have been playing an Illusionist and I must say I absolutely love this class at lower levels. So much so I wanted to invest some time into the char and have it possibly become my main a month or 2 from now. So I decided to invest some time into researching the class at later levels. I talked to some Illusionists friends and read posts on some of the more popular boards. They all seemed to be saying pretty much the same thing. There isnt much use for an illusionist on the high end of the game. This is a major let down.... BUT.... when I read these boards I see people complaining about what is broken or isnt working or just doesnt make sense. Basically folks I wanted to take use this energy into a different direction. LETS GIVE THEM SOME NEW IDEAS. Instead of fixing the old ones, that basically I have to agree with some of you and say they just dont make any sense, giving them new ideas for the class may pump some much needed life into our beloved Illusionists. Idea #1 preface - Our coercer brothers and sisters get a wicked charm spell, for which they are able to solo zones and do amazing things with. Sounds like fun, so lets do something similiar but not.... similiar. Summation - I am going to take a page out of another RPG I loved playing that had a great idea with illusions. The Illusionist faces a... lets say a minotaur... our Illusionist the casts an ILLUSION of the minotaur that would have the same shape and or form and all of the same abilties. This illusion would obey our commands as if he was a pet and attack at our will. Our Illusionst cannot keep this form active forever and the effect will fade after 10 minutes. Illusions cannot be healed or have any a spell of any kind casted on them friend or foe. I would like to give the game Might and Magic III credit for the inspiration. Keep the ideas coming in. Lets go a different direction here and give SOE some great ideas on how to improve the class and not fix it.

The personae spell line fits many of your requirements, and is a very nice complement for soloing.

a good idea let us get back to our eq1 ancestor and get a slow spell would do good and maybe we would be desireble again in stuff

there are several classes in the game that are able to slow. i have never heard anyone ask for a slower though to fill the last group spot. and on raids the cap for slow is rather low and reached easy by other classes already. i doubt this ability would make us any more desired.

Yes WAPCE the personae is an illusion that we can use but it is only of ourselves. I was hoping to take it one step further and "copy" an NPC that would become a illusion for other NPCs to fight and interact with. You could almost say it would be the same as charming except the orginal NPC would not be taken in the effect but it would retain its abilities. The duration of the effect should be much less than that of charm but more stable.

Personally I think the personae is a great introductory illusion for this character but as our illusionists become more powerful we could replicate or copy an npc into an illusion. Giving our characters more choices gives us more depth.

So.....its an unbreakable 10 min charm that doesnt remove a mob from the encounter.

Personally...id love the old coercer charm the way it was before revamp. I believe it lasted 36 seconds and had a 10 sec recast. But, the recast timer started from the time u casted it, not from the time the spel broke (like mezz does). So basically, if you juggled the mobs properly, you could constantly keep 3 mobs charmed at once only it wouldnt leave u much time to do other stuff.

But i aint askin to have that i know it aint happening.....just something that would kick [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn]

Personally I like the current pet. At least it's a huge upgrade to the one from EQ1, where it only attacked after getting hit and the only way we got controls was after the AAs invested. I did like your idea for a pet, however it might be to powerful or useless vs epic mobs. A kind of cool idea would be to take that suggestion and change our construct. However mostly in appearence. I think the illusionist class needs to additions other than content than pets.

When the game was first released there was a teaser spell named Halluciary Terrain. It was meant to be an evac type spell. However another suggestion might be a mass mez. It would not be encounter but an point blank area of effect. It would trap all nearby foes into a realm of illusion holding them entralled for a certain amount of time. To balance this, it would require the illusionist to channel the spell and have a continuing power drain. There would need to be a low or no aggro from this. As in higher instances i'm sure this type of mass aoe would be instant death from one resist. The stipulation of putting a timer on this would prevent chain abuse in raids.

Going back to your original idea though. It would be a good idea for a powerful DoT effect with the flair of an illusionist:

Doppleganger

With this spell the Illusionist creates a duplicate of the target creature. The illusionist will enter a hypnotic trance and send forth his/her Id to battle the creature. A glowing replica of the target appears and charges the target. Every action the target takes will be mimiced by the Doppleganger the next round. The effect will not be as powerful as the orginal however. This spell counts as the caster's Pet, however only takes up 2 concentration instead of 3. The caster may take no other actions while this spell is in effect. The caster is placed into a mez like state that protects him from area of effect damage however any attacks or single target damage will break the illusionist's concentration and the spell ends. The spell also expires if the creature is destroyed. As this is the illusionist's Id , the Doppleganger will only attack the original target and cannot be controlled. It will simply duplicate the actions taken by the target from the previous round. The Doppleganger lasts for a max of 90 seconds with a 5 minute cooldown. Or until the creature is destroyed.

This spell has the potential to increase the damage output of the class as in most raids vs epic mobs. It would allow for the illusionst to either power drain or do damage. These are some suggestions. Please feel free to add any feedback as this was kind of off the top of my head.
