The idea of casting some unbreakable root on a mob and then nuking it down sounds like a game made for a childs Casio watch. Our personae does a good job in getting and keeping aggro, our construct has decent dps (and can even tank a bit), and our Illusory Allies does ok dps and takes all aggro in a pinch. A High level illusionist has 3 different high lvl mezzes, and 5 different high level spells that stun, inturupt or stifle. Spellshield makes us unbeatable vs other mage class in a duel. What is it with root?

A badly injured Personae takes longer to heal than it's needed to recast it. When root was a usable spell, it was possible to keep the personae back for some time, and generally time it's coming just to minimize the downtime. One spell off the bar. About Spellshield, if I wanted to PvP I would play Quake. The current version of spellshield has no use at all in the true game. One spell off the bar. Actually, the Personae is only a cheap answer to the soloing problem. It's not much fun to be a gimped version of a conjurer while soloing (with lesser pet, and lesser dps). To keep it alive we need to use much stunning, stifle and dismay. I hate my stupid Personae but have to use it when I need to solo now. So no, soloing is not fun. It's possible to score kills without pet nor root : it's mez nuking kite. Very boring and very long, but it's usable to kill heroic cyclops, harpies and giants in PoF at 60. Until something else is nerfed. Well, just wait for LU#18.

err, where in this forum or anywhere else did anyone ever ask for an unbreakable root?

what we ask for is some balance. the root was overpowered before now it is at least as much underpowered.

that we have more than one tool that we can utilze doesnt justify to break one of them. that we can solo without a somewhat relyable root is no arguement that it wouldnt matter if its a useless spell.

i can solo without stun, does that mean it wouldnt hurt me if its going to be nerfed into meaningless. i can solo without my 500DD nuke, does that mean it would be ok to change it into a 50pts nuke?

lets just break and nerf every ability and try with how little tools a class is still able to kill stuff?

To answer the title question...nope!

I still use it when I'm tackling 3+ critters at once, or green heroics...it's FAR from useless. I still have my M2 Ego Shock on my hotbar and use that from time to time too.
