View Full Version : Warning to others thinking of playing illusionist, DON'T! SOE hate us

In playing my illusionist over the past couple of months I have actually had fun. I felt balanced and could solo stuff I was supposed to be able to solo and was able to provide benefit to a group. I ignored the fact that wizards and conjuorers my level are able to solo even con heroic mobs, and rangers who can kill stuff in a couple of shots because I felt it's ok... SOE will not change us because we are balanced. I felt secure. How wrong could I be.. This mornings patch has just nerfed us to hell, for soloing it simply sucks.. it has become an exercise is seeing how many times I can cast root in one fight due to it breaking, I could say alot more about our soloing ability.. but I won't.. as frankly I give up. The thing that annoys me the most is the changes made to our mezz spells, especially our AOE mez. Now the duration is so short that when engaging one or (inadvertently) two encounters my entire group time is spent recasting mez. I now don't have time to switch targets, cast some stuns, debuffs etc, switch back to remezz. Now it is mezz.. tick tick tick.. mezz.. tick tick tick mezz. I am simply furious with SOE's continual incompetance.. they have years and years of experience of running MMORPG's yet have never managed to balance classes. They make unannounced sweep changes which pull the rug out from under you feet and honestly I feel so frustrated I would quit this game without hesitation if it wasn't for the people I know in game. So warning to others thinking of becoming an Illusionist.. do not bother.. we are not fun to play, plain and simple. <div></div>

You have to restrain your trigger-finger a little, and let the personae and construct take some heat, and then liberally apply stuns when you do draw aggro. <P>soloing isnt impossible, but the issue i have now, is that if i have more then one mob, i am pretty much screwed. Sure i can mez it, but every time i mez, i gain more aggro, that my pet cant ever regain. If i mez a mob more then twice, it might as well be mine permanently. i still have out lvl 16 stun on my hotbar as it shows to have a deaggro part on it, very low amount, but its about the same as blink, with a little faster recast. still, between the 2 spells, i am usually still stuck running. only hope really is that my pet can tank the first one while i kill it slowly to not get aggro, then long stun the mezzed one, use construct and hope its taunts kick in before it wears off. this is killing lvl 50-52 solo encounters (single no arrow, and 2x single down arrows) in pillars. i am lvl 50, average gear, all adept 1's.</P> <P>i just cant figure out why me, an enchanter, the crowd control class, is now more worried about getting an add, or anything more then a single mob.</P> <DIV>Pilan 50 Illusionist Ogguk</DIV>

I thought omg this cant be right that root breaks after every hit, something must be bugged. But nope after coming and reading this forum I see this was an intended change. Ok, so I read late yesterday afternoon that some fixes are in the works and that root had been changed to not break as often because the tick on DoT's was lowered? Well after trying to play again yesterday I find that root is still breaking after I hit it with anything and things are on me and take half my health before I can stun it. As for the DoT's well im scared to use them now otherwise I cant mez anything when root breaks over and over. That leaves me with scorching beam and aneurysm and a stun spell with a 30 second recast time to play with. That would be fine cept more often than not a DoT spell comes up to complete the HO. I died 3 times in a row trying to complete a tears grifter quest. I am 55th level now can barely solo a 48 ghoul in Sinking Sands. And as for using personae and construct well if I wanted to use pets I would start a summoner. I swore so many times I was gonna delete this character but my friends told me to hang in there that changes were coming with LU13. They were right, I could finally solo, complete quests without help or waiting for them to grey out and even kill the odd heroic, not a mob mind you. Two months of fun then its all taken away. I watched a 54 summoner solo a heroic ^^^ tarantula in Sinking Sands. After this " hot fix" i have cancled my account i feel like such a usless class now , i just cant play anymore after live update 16, i have played EQ2 4/5/ even 6 days a week since 01-22-05 , i to didnt want to leave the game because of the people i have met, i am my guilds only active Illusionist. i went as far as to have the guild leader watch me solo a mob.. his comment was--> "Thats sad" ........i still talk to players i met on EQ2 , via E-mail...we are looking into some of the new games coming out.

<DIV>do you also play a plate armor class? i also play a 55 palidin, i have high midiagation , all adept 3's..........i go down my keyboard hitting 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0 - =....that all i do to kill the mob i am fighting. no tactict's at all . you could never paly an enchater that way. you have to be aware of what spells you cast and when you cast them .that is what makes enchanters so fun. the spell i was casing the most after LU16 was sprint.... PS. i hade to use totem of the wolf just so i could run away. " shakes fist "</DIV>

Yes, the root breaks when damage occurs. Yes, it is ridiculous that a root cannot hold for more than two hits, especially when three out of my five damage spells are DoTs. But to suggest that because the root breaks we are hopeless is hyperbole and not helpful.</P>

Thank you, in all sincerity, for posting messages like these. Frankly, by constantly throwing your hands up in the air and stalking away from the class, a large % of the enchanter population has been weeded out, leaving only the die hards and lucky losers like me left to reap the rewards. Please, continue telling people our class sucks; if they don't roll new enchanters I wont have to compete with them for spells later in levels. Bravo! I, as an illusionist, have had more fun since this last update than I have in the past month, with all the wannabes and fair weather illusionists packing their bags for greener pastures. There are groups aplenty out there needing our services, and I get my choice of them now. I've had two enchanters in my guild roll alts this past week, and thanks to their frustration, I managed to outlevel them with ease. Thank you so very, very much. Listen, there's an old saying among chefs: only you know what goes on in the kitchen... a bit esoteric, I know, but as long as you get the job done, that's all that matters. With the recent changes, yes things are a wee bit more difficult. But if you show up in a group, pay attention and work hard at what you do, you shine, as any class; as an enchanter you're invaluable. You might have to mix things up and try new approaches to your class, both in groups and solo, but we're all semi advanced simians here, aren't we? People say that the current incarnation of the enchanter class is subpar, nothing compared to it's EQ1 ancestor... do any of you even REMEMBER what it was like to play an EQ1 enchanter? The days when you could accidentally mezz yourself with your AE mezz? The days before you got messages when your mezzes were broken? Jeez, do any of you even remember when you had to stare at your spell book to med? We dont even need to sit down any more, people! The current incarnation is so dumbed-down easy to play it's a joke... if anyone should be mad it's because they've taken the brains out of playing such a complicated and finesse oriented characted. Maybe you dont like these changes, that's fine... Maybe you'll walk away from this class in the standard righteous indignation. From my previous comments, I think that's more than fine. If you want to stand up and try to make a change for your class for the better, that's even fricken better. But don't come here, rattle off some "they ruined MY class!" BS and pretend to walk away... cause if you don't remember how bad it USED to be, especially compared to how it is now, it's not really your class now, is it? I can still solo heroics with ease. There are reasons they nerfed the root. it so not every could blindly solo. all i have to say is learn your class and it will be ez once again. if want suggestion send me a tell.Dalusion 60 illusionist nek server

If not im dead.</div><hr></blockquote>I can still mez like a mad man. Put me in a situation where my group just got 3 more encounters. I will love it. 5 triple ups? Bring it on. If the group knows what there doing, there should be no problems. In my opinion 45 seconds on a ae mez was a little over powered. I dont think it should have gone to 22 seconds but, 45 is a little to long.</span><div></div>

<P>I'm only 43, but I'm still having more fun soloing with my Illusionist than my Wizard (lvl 52).</P> <P>In all honesty, it's a little slower but way more relaxing. If I stick to yellow groups of 3, the xp rolls in fast enough without there being any real danger. In all honesty I usually don't waste time on roots unless I go into the yellow (which is pretty rare).</P> <P>We also bring a lot to groups, recently did a bout of nonstop killing yellows with a group of 4 in CT, procs, buffs and breeze help a lot.</P> <P>I'm still worried about raids though. Enchanters seemed to have been totally nerfed. Sure there were problems with our spells being a little too powerful when there were many chanters raid, but you would think a fairer solution would be to up the resist rate for epics, not to make them totally immune to our bread and butter spells...</P>
