View Full Version : The great drain upgrade
<DIV>Upgrade? Nope, proof is in the pictures(both were taken at capped INT)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><IMG src="http://www.physics.uc.edu/~pinskie/spells/Drain%20Thought.JPG"><IMG src="http://www.physics.uc.edu/~pinskie/spells/Drain%20Thought2.JPG"></DIV> <DIV>So, 145 a tic, every 3s after instant, so 7 tics of 145, or 1015. Look at our new one, 1022 power drain, WHAT AN UPGRADE.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><IMG src="http://www.physics.uc.edu/~pinskie/spells/Sap%20Will.JPG"><IMG src="http://www.physics.uc.edu/~pinskie/spells/Sap%20Will2.jpg"></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>So, old one is a tic every 2.2s after instant, so 6 tics total. 828-1014 vs. 943-1152, an upgrade, a bit better, but not quite what we were expecting since it still takes forever.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>This is NOT about the duration, this is about the DRAIN component only. So what's with our lack of an upgrade?</DIV>

RAWR!!! We are overpowered now in the drain department man, better be quiet about it or it may get nerfed, i mean, 7 points will just insta drain ANYTHING. Very excited about, i cant wait to drain 7 points more, oooooooh pass me the keyboard and the mouse quick, i want to cast this spell over and over again.

<P>Looks like we still cant drain power very well. I have never been able to drain heroic mobs before they die, even when the old spells ran their full duration. Now I drain a few points more up front, prob wont see a difference in fights. Mobs will still die with power remaining. If we cant drain them full by the time they hit 25% health its not even worth the effort IMO.</P> <P>Useless? Will check it out, but appears that way!</P><p>Message Edited by Nibblar on <span class=date_text>11-09-2005</span> <span class=time_text>10:16 PM</span>
<P>I know you said its not about the duration, but as with the other posters here, the power drain is pretty much useless. I cast for the stifle. And that got nerfed with everything else, and no notes in the patch for it.</P> <P>Logged in, and guild couldnt figure out why i was so upset, they read the patch notes, and it looked positive. *laugh*</P>

<P>Last night in SC raid area I tried to drain a X4 add, not the main guy jsut the add. I was able to cast on him for three rounds of each, only one of the power feed. He did not get below 90%. I have to assume that he was using some power. </P> <P>I tried on one of the lions, just before he died his Blue bar showed, 90%. This is chain casting drains the entire fight. </P> <P>So I figure I will try heroics. Level 49 heroics, chain cast and I still can't drain him...well maybe I could if the the root actually stuck, but I had to run away after about 2 min. Was running OOP. </P> <P>There is NO DRAIN and NO ROOT at this time. Stuns nerfed, Mez nerfed, Regen Nerfed, Stifle nerfed...pathetic.</P>

Guess this all is the price we have to pay for Spellshield (which will get nerfed, mark my words) and Illusory Allies.

<DIV>I'd say, spellshield is gonna be one of those hotfix nerfs.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Dev: "Omg, something still works!!! Quickly, ask the hamster to run around on the keyboard so we can stick that gibberish instead of the spellshield code."</DIV>

Spellshield should be like "Group or raid friend" or something like that. Don't see people putting an illusionist into MT group <img src="/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />

I'm a bit new but isn't the fact that it doesn't tick a pretty nice upgrade? I mean, now you can cast it once and get all of it's benefit without worrying about one of its ticks breaking your root. How is that not an upgrade? <div></div>

<P>I am in MT group all the time. Spellshield is a great tool. </P> <P>Did BAoW last night, We kept a shaman up and I tired to drain it while we regened, not a named, jsut one of the X4's in an add group. Think he was a 52? Def Green. </P> <P>I cast constantly all of my drains, never a break for over ten minutes. A Bard came and joined and one other class...think it was a healer but not sure, I was busy. At the end when we finally killed him, ten minutes later, he was at 40%. He had to have had 100k power and a massive regen. It was pathetic.</P> <P>Mobs cannot be drained. So no matter how great the upgrade, the mobs cannot be drained. It is a dead art. Don't even cast it, you are wasting power.</P>

<DIV>I don't know. I saw a big difference between previous behavior and behavior last night. I did not go after any heroics, but like everyone else, I had noticed after LU15 that casting power drains for the power drain effect alone was pretty useless. I could not even drain a solo mob of its power before it died. However, last night, I was going up against yellow con solo mobs and draining their power completely in once cast of Drain Will and one cast of Speechless (both of which were at Adept 1). Drain Will alone was taking their power out most of the way. As I said, I did not go up against any heroics, and it was certainly not what it was before where two casts of Speechless drained the power from most even named heroics. But it was significant enough on the mobs I was fighting list night that I was able to get rid of their power easily.</DIV>
i never used the forums before lu16 ever....i used to have an enchanter.i closed my account after the update.but im still interested in what othere are thinking....lol that is funny..i agree with you )

<DIV> <P>Ok, grouped with a necro the other night and controlled the overall dps around 200-230 for each fight. We were fighting heroic mobs 2-4 levels below me (Im level 41), 37-39 range. I was unable to drain power on any mob before it died, not even close. The best I did was 75%, but since the mob was using power I probably drained no more the 50%. The necro was holding back on dps and all I did was cast the two power drain spells. So I have come to the conclusion, power drain on these two spells is STILL completely useless. If the necro and myself went all out on dps (550+) it would take 4 or 5 illusionists to drain the mobs before they died. The controlled dps of 200-230 is low for a group of 3-6 people in their late 30s and low 40s as well, allowing me even more time to potentially drain them.</P> <P>Suggestions?</P></DIV>

if they lower the recast time to 5 -12 sec will be good, the only good thing now is that no break mez., but if no lower recast time is just the same.
