I got Master1s on all three mez spells (single x2, groupx1) and I can say that they very RARELY break early. My case was just good fortune and timing. But if I didnt have the mastrers, I would not have used a 54 Master II on mez. I personally took Dynamism, others have taken the Signet.

Considering mezz is not a spell that is used all the time, I think for mezz at adapt3 or Master1 is more then sufficient, Master II would be overkill IMO.

For the CQ4 encounter, the Master 1 almost always sticks the encounter with success. Otherwisem , it will at least mez 2 of 3 which is corrected with a quick single mezz

Message Edited by Tulerine on 11-03-2005 02:02 PM

You're saying you've seen mezzes breaking early? The revamp was supposed to make mezzes last the entire duration every time. Someone mentioned this in the coercer forum awhile back too, and I think the conlusion we came to was that perhaps the mob types in question (it was one or two specific types of mobs that were breaking early) had some sort of ability to break mez, and it wasn't the spell itself just ending early (I think brawlers have some CAs that do this). I've never witnessed this, so I'm just curious about it. PigLick

Message Edited by PigLickJF on 11-03-2005 11:21 AM

actually the spell description says:

upgrades to this spell reduce the targets resistance to the full duration of the effect.

and somewhere in some patch note or some Dev post the meaning of this has been explained to simply be: if you upgrade your spell it should get resisted less.

not more and not less. there is no partial resist or a partial duration any more like it was pre CU. either the target resists the full duration or it doesnt resist at all.

if its worth to upgrade, well i am not sure. decide yourself: from my testing on orange con ^^^mobs 5 lvl higher than myself:

mez master 1/2 had a success to stack for about 65%.

mez apprentice 3 had a success to stack of 50%.

adept should be somewhere in the middle, maybe 55-60%.

on lower lvl cons the difference will almost vanish as the resists in general are much lower. on yellow heroics the success rate of mez was 90%+ already for both master and apprentice quality. (can differ on higher resist mobs). in practice you most likely wont notice if your mez will stick for 90% or for 95%.

I made this mistake before on this very forum. Yes the spell description says that it increases the chances for the spell to stick. No it is not correct. In one of the patch notes it states that the update changed it so that the only thing that the is supposed to change on upgrades is the initial mez.

Thx guyz :smileywink: i didn't read patch notes about that., well 5% works for me i'll get adept III but don't think the master at least i find it cheap.

I thought that the mezzes were suppose to stick thoughout the duration as well. And that has seemed mostly true. But I have found one mob that can indeed break a landed mez.

When I was in my 30's, out in Zek, the scorched tree lords out past gate 2 were breaking the mez at random times during it's duration. This was after the patch in question. The message I got in the combat chat was "A scorched tree lord begins to see through the illusion." And out he would come. They were also very resistant to being mezzed in the first place.

The tree lords conned yellow to me at time. The mezzes used were adept 1 group mez and a master 2 entrance. They were breaking them both.

My only theory is that they had very high mental resistiances (perhaps being trees that had little or no brains to mez).

Rarely do I have a yellow con mob resist my single target mezzes more than once. And never do they break them. The scorched tree lords are the only exception to this I have found.

My illusionist is currently at level 42.

some classes have the ability to remove mental effects like stifle or mez from themselves. some classes have the ability to make themselves immune against those kind of effects.

my guess is the tree lords belong to one of those classes and have such an ability in their arsenal of skills.
