<DIV>I currently have an alt Illusionist (level 25).  To be honest, I have not really played him since around June.  I fired him up the other day and barely had time to make it through the re-spec before RL called and I had to bail.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The reason that I quit playing him was because I was having increasing difficulty soloing and it was not that much fun anymore.  Ya, ya, I know........illusionists were not really made to be solo machines but I still had fun.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Now that everyone has settled into the big combat revamp I was looking for some information on how you feel about the Illusionists capabilities now compared to a few months ago.  More specifically, which spells would be most beneficial for me to choose.  I noticed a lot of changes and I would like to make the right choices.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Some other boards are saying that Illusionists are now one of the best solo classes that there is.  </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Your thoughts?  Thanks.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Tiki</DIV> <DIV>Guk</DIV>

For soloing, Illusionists got a permanant pet, which is in the "Personae" line of spells. With the pet, Soloing becomes much easier.  I'll let others comment about other particular spells, but in general, your roots (which do not break due to damage), stuns and stifles let you manage mobs easily while your pet helps out.  Overall, between the non-breaking roots and the pet, solo for illusionists is now viable and fun.

Post revamp we had a major increase in the ability to solo. It is definatley possible for us to take out ^^^ now. <div></div>

As an Illusionist(47) that nearly left Norath myself let me say that we have MUCH improved our soloing ability. We now have a permanent pet and a root that does not break on our DoTs first tick. Also, I am very happy that I don't have to keep repeating buffs all the time.

<DIV>Not sure if you know what the Splitpaw Arena is. Its a test of soloing basically. The arena master sends out mobs of increasing difficulty, even doubles and triples sometimes. My illusionist can kill the entire quest on normal mode and every gladiator on the Difficult mode, including the encounter of three equal-level gladiators. The only one I can't kill is the Difficult Arena Champion, who is (my level +4) with no up arrows.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>So in short, we're pretty [expletive ninja'd by Faarbot] good at soloing now. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV>

Other classes always claimed, even before combat revamp, that enchanter are overpowered in soloing cause we were able to kill those heroic mobs. What they usually didnt point out was that it took us an eternity to do so.</P> <P>I would say we are a good solo class now. </P> <P>If we are one of the best? Hard to say. Several classes got a boost in soloing, other classes who have been amongst the best before remained so. But prolly the difference between crap solo ability pre combat change and decent ability post combat change is for no class as huge as for illusionist. No doubt, for soloing out of all classes we got boosted the most IMO. </P>

I would not say that Illusionists are "the best" solo class.  I get some serious solo envy when I watch my brother (ranger) absolutely tear through solo mobs.  I can reliably take out more difficult targets than he can, (not that he cannot, he just has to do a little kiting/dancing) But I cannot even come close to the speed he can kill at.  Our mage bretheren are not too shaby in the solo department either. I am fine with this though I do not need to be the best solo class. I signed up to be the best control class. Howerever, it sure is nice not to struggle with single solo blues! <div></div>

<P>We're ok at soloing now provided you are happy at playing a pet class.</P> <P>Main thing to upgrade in that case, would probably be your Personae spell.</P> <P>Whatever version of Intensity/Dynamism you get at those levels (if any) is also a good bet, soloing I tend to keep that up on both myself and my pet.</P>

Have taken my illusionist from 27 to 33 since the revamp and it's been great fun!Don't have the dynamism spell yet, but definitely upgrade your personae which you get at 20 and 33, don't know passed that. At adept3 it can take a pretty good beating from solo monsters and dish out respectable spell-based attacks. For soloing I like to send in the pet and while he's doing his thing to get to the monster start summoning the little single-target pet we get starting at 33 now. Then go into HOs using the shortterm proc buff, DDs, stuns and silence. Can usually and a fight with monsters up to 3 and 4 levels above who are solo with more than 80% health.Pet is even really good in groups, at least at my level. It deals very respectable damage at AD3.
