Illusionists may just be king of the unconventional group. One of the best groups I've been in since the expansion hit has been anything but standard. It consisted of myself, a ranger, and a conjuror. When you're short on tanks/healers, or just feel like doing something different, give this a shot. Most of you know this already... but for those that don't: Put together a group with yourself (Illusionist, obviously) and a few ranged DPS'ers. Go out and pet pull a white or lower heroic ^^^. The key to these kinds of unconventional groups is our root. When it's in range, throw up root. If it resists, stun and try again. You'll get it. If you don't, you may want to look for mobs with lower mental resists or try opening with Wither Hope to debuff. Anyway, once it's rooted have the DPS unload. There's no need to worry about pulling aggro off the MT here, since there isn't one. Keep your eye on root and make sure it's refreshed before it breaks. Preferably a little early to account for the occasional resist. If you've got some good partners, even con fights will only last 10 - 20 seconds.. and you'll still have nearly full power. If you start getting into a rhythm, you can even send out your pet to pick up another target while you're finishing off the first. A group like this can make for non-stop pulls and incredible xp gains. Your root will effectively replace the need for a tank and healer... leaving nothing but pure DPS goodness with no downtime. If you're grouped with Scouts and are able to coordinate things, they can have plenty of safe melee time behind the mob as well as ranged. Between myself and a ranger in my guild, we can keep a mob stunned for 17.5 seconds. Throw in another DPS and the mob will be dead before it can even move. Can things go wrong? Sure they can. Root can be resisted or break early every now and again. But you're an Illusionist. You're the MASTER of making a wrong situation right again. Use your stuns properly and everyone will be safe. With a little practice and a couple of consistent partners, you'll be amazed at the efficiency with which you can hunt in an unconventional group such as this.
Message Edited by MillsFairchild on 09-30-2005 03:39 PM

I always think it's funny when people are like, "Shhh! Keep quiet about that or it'll get NERFED!!!" Even funnier when people are like, "Shhh! Keep quiet about that or it'll get FIXED!!!" I hate to break it to you, but the devs realize something is too powerful long before they realize something is broken. And we talk about what's broken all the time. If they think something is overpowered, it's going to be nerfed whether or not we talk about it on the boards. The fact is they've already looked at it and reduced it's effectiveness. They're obviously aware of what it can do. Whether or not they choose to further reduce it's effectiveness remains to be seen. But until then I'm not going to keep quiet about something that I don't consider broken or overpowered.

Mills has typically been an [expletive ninja'd by Faarbot] to me in my dps post heheheh. But yeah I too say dont scream about how good root is the fact of the matter is its not one or two of us who would get nerfed we all would so in all honesty it matters not the only thing that matters is how it is now. I agree with Mills original post here the best duo ive ever had pre or post LU14 is myself and my good templar friend even more so now as I have a personae to work with together we can own pretty much whatever we want too. In fact I actually like it better in small unconventional groups because Ive always felt thats where I shine, and all Illusionists for that matter (even those not as leet as me =p) We are the masters of making things right and for that matter we are the best choice for an unconventional group.

BTW MILLS since you started this thread and chewed me out for the whole dps thing along with many many many others I would like to state for fact that the other night on King Zalak raid the person who had the highest hit on the raid was a coercer, where as I was told to dps and didnt make it on the top 12 list of best dpsers(cant recall every class who outdpsed me here)

Highest hit was by a lv 52 coercer for 55000 dmg the spell was Tyrannical Mind it's an AE spell that (what im told by the coercer) hits the targets for 510% of the power they use, sounds like a very kewl line(if its a line and not a random uberness gift) Id like to see more tricky type spell lines like this for both classes of chanters in the 60-70 range when it happens and I think all enchanters would agree this is a kewl thing.=)

Just a small correction on the coercer spell.

Its not an AE. Its single target.

Most of the time it just sits there doing nothing since mobs almost dont use specials.

Regards,

JackAll

sounds as, even if it goes off only once per fight it still has the potential to put you on top of the dps list.

would think, just fair that it doesnt chain proc most of the time.

I never said our DPS was sustainable over the length of a raid. And I've said that it was in no-way efficient. The only point I was making is that putting out good DPS is possible when everyone was saying it wasn't.
