View Full Version : Binding Light not Working After Patch

Has anyone else noticed that Binding Light isn't holding like it did before the patch?Out of 30 casts: ~20 broke after a split second, ~8 held for 3 seconds, ~2 held for a good amount of time. It's making it very difficult to solo at 23, and a lot of the greenies that were easy kills yesterday now pummel me to death. Any else sharing this problem?<p>Message Edited by MillsFairchild on <span class=date_text>02-18-2005</span> <span class=time_text>06:08 AM</span>

<DIV>I noticed this also, it's horrible how often it breaks now. Nearing completely useless. Holding a mob for less than the duration of one spell puts it on the verge of being broken IMO.</DIV>

I'm convinced they made some unintentional change to it. I /bug'ed it. Hope it gets fixed soon.

<DIV>Yep, this is definitely not working like it used to... they added a ton of new solo content in Zek with the patch (orc marauders) and I thought I'd try a few out. Turns out I couldn't kill any of them (ranging from blue to yellow cons) because Binding Light kept breaking before I could cast Nightmare. I almost died twice trying this because the orc would be on top of me almost immediately after I cast this spell. Not only that, they were hitting for a ton more... I used to be able to get hit 3-4 times before going down to yellow in my hp bar, but these orcs (and the old Talon grunts that were always there) were hitting me once and taking me into yellow, every time. Note: I had my armor attuned so that wasn't the problem.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Not sure how they expect me to enjoy the new solo content if I can't even start to solo it, but yea...</DIV>

I've noticed that this is also a problem with one of my Ranger skills. I use it and it stops working .5 seconds later. They did something wrong.

<DIV>I was having the same issues last night and wondering if it was just me. I will bug it when I get on tonight. I only solo'ed for a about 30 minutes and thought I was having some bad luck.</DIV>

<DIV>I hate it that they did that, but it doesnt surprise me. I could easily kill monsters 6 levels higher that me ny using binding light. I havent tried since the patch but it doesnt sound to promising.</DIV>

<DIV>I think the problem might be related to the error at the bottom of the spell description. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>It says: ### ERROR: POSSIBLE SPELL RECURSION ###</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Checking repeatedly for root breaking would use a recursion. A recursion in programming is simply a loop that repeats commands or formulae. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>But my numbers are consistent with the OP. Only about 1-2% of the time is binding light actually useful. </DIV>
<DIV>I made a mistake setting up my hot bar and had Arcane Bindings instead of Binding Lights. When I realized this and fixed it I found I was getting worse results with BL than with AB!! (on mobs that AB still works on obviously)</DIV> <DIV>Go figure!</DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

<DIV><STRONG>At least before the patch some of us were having this problem even worse than you.</STRONG></DIV> <DIV><STRONG></STRONG> </DIV> <DIV><STRONG> <DIV><STRONG>This was on feb 10th</STRONG></DIV></STRONG></DIV> <DIV><STRONG>I was in mountains and cast it.. IT was like a switch going off.</STRONG></DIV> <DIV><STRONG>After this every time I cast bl and then gloom, my chr would interupt gloom and make a motion</STRONG></DIV> <DIV><STRONG>like it cast another spell and bl would break.</STRONG></DIV> <DIV><STRONG>Some times it was after any other spells were cast, it would just make a motion of casting something</STRONG></DIV> <DIV><STRONG>and bl would break.</STRONG></DIV> <DIV><STRONG> <DIV><STRONG>so I test some more and I would click on a group member and get you can't attack this person.</STRONG></DIV> <DIV><STRONG>spam over and over.</STRONG></DIV></STRONG></DIV> <DIV><STRONG>AFTER 2 tech and 2 GM...the head GM finally email me and said . </STRONG></DIV> <DIV><STRONG>OH that happens in hills, we are putting that in so you can't bl and flee... The mob will now teleport</STRONG></DIV> <DIV><STRONG>to your location.</STRONG></DIV> <DIV><STRONG>[FAAR-NERFED!]!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!</STRONG></DIV> <DIV><STRONG>I didn't flee I didn't move, I didn't cast. I didn't do a [FAAR-NERFED!] thing.</STRONG></DIV> <DIV><STRONG>But my chr makes a quick cast motion to break bl.</STRONG></DIV> <DIV><STRONG>MAN do they get their coders from mcdonalds?</STRONG></DIV> <DIV><STRONG>Of course the coders just do what the IDIOTS in charge say do.</STRONG></DIV> <DIV><STRONG></STRONG> </DIV> <DIV><STRONG>This is just another example of they don't have a clue...send in your $15 and shut the F up</STRONG></DIV> <DIV><STRONG></STRONG> </DIV> <DIV><STRONG>Of course AFTER the last patch I am now just experiencing what you are saying maybe a little</STRONG></DIV> <DIV><STRONG>more..SO ITS A LOT BETTER FOR ME</STRONG></DIV> <DIV><STRONG></STRONG> </DIV> <DIV><STRONG>don't feel to bad, they will find something else that works and concentrate on breaking that</STRONG></DIV> <DIV><STRONG>so maybe they will leave this broke mess alone</STRONG></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><STRONG>Whopper</STRONG></DIV> <DIV><STRONG></STRONG> </DIV> <DIV><STRONG></STRONG> </DIV> <DIV><STRONG></STRONG> </DIV> <DIV><STRONG></STRONG> </DIV> <DIV><STRONG></STRONG> </DIV>

I don't see any change in how well BL sticks. I see a roughly 75%:25% ratio on long to short BL stickages. What quality is your BL spell (app/adept/etc)? Note that I still think 75%:25% is horrible. We're already so ineffective as soloers; why must we suffer a cruddy BL?What I do see is the teleporting thing bigwhopper noticed. When soloing I like to BL, step away, and DoT. Sometimes after I step away, the mob will teleport to my location. He's still BL'd according to my maintained effects window, just teleported to my exact location and beating the tar out of me. I've noticed it on granitescale basilisks and crabs in Ant and undead settlers in TS. Seems to be a random bug, though - not all of those mobs exhibit this capability.<p>Message Edited by XorAxAx on <span class=date_text>02-20-2005</span> <span class=time_text>01:07 PM</span>

My BL is Adept 1. Nothing has changed in my setup other than the effectiveness of the spell.

It seems to only be Binding light that was effected. The upgrade is working fine ( according to a friend) but his BL isnt working either. </P> <P>This happened during the only handful of fights I tried last night. These were vs. solo green and grey mobs that I was killing for a quest. </P> <P>Cast binding light. Wait for binding light to refresh. About 2 seconds after casting the first BL, it breaks with no actions taken against the mob. Recast BL. Breaks again immediately. Stun. Speechless. DoT, nuke, and tank the rest of the way.</P> <P>I didnt even have a chance to cast a dot 3/4 of the time. </P> <P>I also tried casting on a yellow orc. No matter how hard I tried, even when not casting any spells other than BL itself, I could not keep the orc from coming for me. </P> <P>It seems that the error message on the description is gone now though, so thats not the problem. </P> <P>And the GM story doesnt make sense. If roots were changed so that you couldnt run, then why does it only do it on hills? And if making the mob unable to move isnt for keeping it away, then what the hell is it for? Either way, all the other roots work fine ( except the occasional teleport bug) except binding light which is very much useless for some players now ( doesnt seem to affect everyone). </P>

<DIV>I have noticed this same problem, but it is not just Binding Light. I have noticed Ego Shock's root is not holding well either. Daunting Gaze may not be holding as long as well.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Typically, I start a solo encounter with Daunting Gaze, followed by all three DoTs, then hit with an HO, then root with Binding Light. I use Ego Shock to lock the HO starter chain. Daunting Gaze will normally last long enough to get off all three DoTs and about one more spell. Using Ego Shock to lock the HO starter chain ensures the target stays rooted long enough to complete the HO and, often, Binding Light. If nothing fizzles or is resisted, I can often get all those spells off before the mob gets to me and, if BL sticks, keep them from getting to me.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>So prepatch, the target would be stunned long enough to get off Ego Shock, which would root them long enough to get off the HO and Binding Light. If my timing was off or if something fizzled, most of the time Binding Light would hit just as they got to me, meaning I took at most one or two hits before getting out of range again.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>After the patch, I have noticed the following:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Many times, Ego Shock's root will be resisted, meaning that, once Daunting Gaze does break, they come towards me without stopping. Even if Ego Shock does stick, it will not hold long enough to get off the HO.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Binding Light is either outright resisted or breaks long before the spell normal spell duration.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Daunting Gaze may be breaking a bit early as well, but I cannot confirm this. But I can confirm seeing more resists on damge spells than before.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The most frustrating thing about this is that it is not just that it is happening with Yellows and Oranges, it is happening with all levels, including Greens. It is also important to note that my Daunting Gaze, Binding Light, and Ego Shock are all Adept 1. And it is important to note that when I fought these same greens, blues, and whites as yellows and oranges, these same spells worked well. So it is not that my spells are too low of a level or that the mobs are just a higher level than what I was fighting before.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>As a 'Chanter class, our only ability to survive is to be able to do Crowd Control, and doing such control against a single solo mob 4 levels below me should be almost guaranteed. Adept 1 spells against those mobs should be nearly impossible for that low of a mob to break. So something has definitely changed in the patch.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

<DIV>Binding light is still not working. IT is very upsetting as I just can not solo effectively w/o it.</DIV>

<DIV>Yup, Binding Light is useless for me. Odd because when it holds, it holds for a very long time. This usually never happens and happens on a second cast. Most of the time is only lasts for a half second. I could really solo if it werent for BL super-nerf.</DIV>

That bug was noted long before the last patch.</P> <P>The teleporting bug appears to be a pathing exploit "fix" that is done intentionally. The game appears to have code which, when the AI cannot figure out how to get to you, it solves the problem by transporting the stuck creature to your location. This prevents exploits where you can intentionally get a critter stuck behind something then kill it without it being able to get to you. I believe this is what is happening because you will find that it only happens when you root a critter on uneven ground. It sometimes happens when mezed, but usually only if there was some kind of root involved at some point. But one thing is virtually certain, if you root a critter on uneven or even steep slopes, there is a very good chance that the AI is going to interpret the fact that it cannot get to you as being stuck, and teleport the critter, root and all, to your location. This is why you will see the bind still being maintained. It did not break the bind. It just fasley intepreted the bind as the critter being stuck.</P> <P>Over and above the annoyance factor of this is that you will find that even when the bind finally expires, it will keep doing this for the duration of the fight. Even if you rebind the critter on nice, even terrain, it will suddenly teleport to your location. Mezzes and Stuns will keep them from hitting you for the duration of the effect, but they will still teleport to your location, meaning as soon as the effect wears off, you are getting hit.</P> <P>It has gotten to the point that I will not even attempt to bind things on steeply sloping or uneven ground if I can at all help it.</P>
